To anyone that has been following my performance uprgrade installs, knows that I have been frustrated as heel with some of the results that I have had with some parts. This last install is the most impressive results that I have had since the install of my Injen intake. RECAP: what I had so far before this last install was, a Spoon exhaust, spoon throttle body, and injen intake. My base HP to the wheels was 187.5 RWHP and 128.0 Trq.With teh install of the intake, it bumped up to 199.3 HP, and 137.0 Trq respectively. Soon after that I bought and installed the spoon N1, and Spoon Throttle body and only netted 3.3hp gain wich was very disappointing, HOWEVER when I had my car dynoed ti was infact drizzling rain outside. I had no idea the affects that the rain might have on the intake until I had my car dynoed one more time before the install of the VAFC. This time that weather was dry and beautiful. The results netted ANOTHER 6.0 hp gain bringing the total HP to 208.6 hp and 143.1 Trq without changing anything except the weather. So now here I am getting the Apex i VAFC installed and tunned. I get my car back after 5 hours of install and tunning and find myself with an output of 217.4 RWHP and 147.6 Trq. I'm happy with these results as these were teh kind of results that I was expecting. Dyno sheets is below including install location. I decided that I would share with you these results since I was very disheartened about my previous resluts as I am sure many of you have been with some of your install experiences. The fact of the matter still remains. As Beig has always said. It is very difficult to squeeze anythign out of this engine, but at the same time I believe that with reasonable expectations, and ALOT of patience, anyone can tield SOME resluts from this engine.
217.4 HP 147.6 TRQ
Right under the ignition. I decided that this would be the ideal place since I can still see it and it is out of prying eyes when folded back. My knee does not hit it at all. Email me if you have any questions.
Very good results! Have you done any before/after 1/4 miles?
If you are wondering about the difference in power when its humid (raining) and dry read some more about "air density" and its effects on performance. In short; the dryer, colder and higher the air pressure (=lower elevation) the better the performance. This is more pronounced on NA engines than FI.
Impressive results. The intial sub 200 hp runs are a little strange, but the 208/143 numbers are pretty close to what I'd expect with an intake and exhaust (TB doesn't seem to do much on a stock motor). Thus, the 9 hp/4 lbs-ft gains with the VAFC are quite nice as well.
That said, I have to tell you that Dynamic's dynojet has always read a bit high. About 3-5 hp on cars that I've dyno'd there vs. other shops. Even so, that would still put you well over 210 hp and 140 lbs-ft, which is excellent for no internal modifications.
Don't worry folks, we'll see 240-250 wheel hp from a NA F20C on pump gas. It will happen sooner or later. Just takes some time.
Thanks for that post! Now I know I'm not the only one with a low baseline dyno. I dyno'd at 188 rwhp. But like you, it was raining out. I'm now going to go get a new baseline dyno when it's nice.
I dyno'ed 216 on dynamic's dyno with a stock, not fully broken in motor once... They need to fix that thing...
BUT, I am impressed and encouraged by your gains. The question is, will the ECU compensate for your tuning and kill off your gains? This has been a rumor and I have yet to see a definite answer. UL?

VAFC, install, dyno and tunning will be anywhere from $600-$700 depending on how much you pay for the vafc, and how much they charge to tune. If there is a reputable shop around you that is known for great tunning, then bring your car there. I've heard of VAFC tunning problems with being too lean or too rich. I could have done this myself but I didn't wan't to take the chance on ruinning the engine in anyway. You might have to pay the extra money, but it is worth it.
