Best Motoring tested 350Z against 02' S2K, e46 M3, Boxster 2.7 and R34 GT-R
Here's the result
1st R34 GT-R v-spec II (fastest lap 1:07.2)
2nd 350Z track edition (fastest lap 1:09.72)
3rd e46 M3 (fastest lap 1:09.40)
4th S2K (fastest lap 1:09.49)
5th Boxster 2.7 (1:11.10)
The test was done at Tsukuba circuit with damp road condition. From the comments of Best Motoring's drivers, the S2K seems to be the fastest car around the corners (faster than a GTR! ) because of its light weight. However, the S2K's driver missed one of his cornering line and let the M3 passed, otherwise it should have won over the M3 for overall (5laps ).
As for the 350Z, the driver got a good launch and stayed in front of the group for the whole time until the GTR smoked him at the straight. The car is very fast on the top-end but understeers during the in-field.
The M3 was a very fast car but couldn't pass the S2K until somewhere near the end of the race (the S2K was turning too wide).
From what I saw the S breaks and turns much faster than the M3, but looses ground on the straight. Also, at the end of the race they show how the S did against the M3 on a long straight and it wasn't pretty.
The Boxster... not enough power to keep up with the rest (they should have brought the Boxster S).
The GTR, it started about 2 buses length behind other cars but finished a 1/4 mile ahead
Well, just to share with u guys.
p.s. sorry for the bad grammar

Wow, I'm surprised the S was so close to the M3. That said, the driver's do play a role in these tests. Some cars suit some drivers better, and some guys (Gansan) are more aggressive than others. Which car was Gansan (the short, older guy) driving?

Gansan drove the S2K and Tsuchiya drove the M3.
Both of them were very aggressive. Tsuchiya almost lost it couple times... same as Gansan.
At the end both of them were doing "drift" show!

In that case they cannot drive ... or 'sand-bagged' in the e46 M3. You don't need to be a dirver-ace to outrun (or uot-lap) an S2000 in an e-46 M3. The e46 M3 laps about 2 sec per lap quicker (over a 60 sec lap). e46 M3 laps just as quickly as an EVO6 or a 996 Carrera.
BM is a Japanese program and they seem to have a very heavy bias towards the Japanese cars (not that that's anything wrong with that) - seems like they often 'fake' the outcome. I've seen a few of these where they 'show' the Japanese cars out-run and out-accelerate the Euro 'hotshots' ... still in a real world or in any other inndependent test it show's these BM programs to be far from reality. Still, very entertaining watching.
ps. If you're wondering where I get my numbers then I've seen a few inpdependent tests where all the cars are driven on the same day by the same proffesional race-car driver and here are the tracks that the tests were done on (usually different drver on each):
- Phillip Island (open and fast) = 1:52.xx for e46 M3, EVO 6 and 996. S2000 = 1:57.xx
- Winton (tight and twisty) = 1:41.xx for e46 M3, 1:42.xx for EVO 6 and 996. S2000 = high 1:43s
- Nurburgring (long one) = 8:22 for e46 M3 and 8:39 for the S2000.
- Hokenheim (tight and short) = 1:17.6 for e46 M3 and 1:18.9 for the S2000.
