Sorry retard moment.

I take the existing band off but leave the the pop rivets in place? (or pull the whole thing out?), so when you make a strap as above these plugs on the end plug into the existing holes in the frame?

You cut out the original straps close to the plates and the pins on the new straps push into the holes in the original pop rivets.

I made some last weekend, plus a bit of black spray paint on the ends. I couldn't find self-adhesive pipe lagging so I just bought a length of pipe insulation (the tubular stuff) for 50p in B&Q.

Hi had a better look at this yesterday in picture one halfway down, you say the new straps with the rivets fit into the existing holes.

I cant see any hole in the existing fitment, or do i need to push them out of something?

thanks

Aye, I was wondering the same there. Since my straps are still the original ones - 9 years old, they probably need a refresh

The holes on the front bar are covered by the elastic folding back over them.

You will see them when you cut the old elastic off (protect the roof when you do any cutting with a sharp knife )

You should be able to see the holes (rivets) and plate where the elastic is fixed on the rear bar.

Thanks, I think we should have a DIY section so that all these type of posts could be brought together in one place IMHO
