Soft top disable function

Soft top disable function
I installed a hardtop with after market brackets.
I want to disable the soft top switch when the hard top is installed. It must still be functional when the hard top is off.
Any ideas ?

1. Remove gearknob
2. Unclip the centre console and lift up.
3. Unplug the switch.
4. Refit centre console
5. Refit gear knob.
Tools required: 1 spanner (14mm if memory serves me correctly)
Total time from start to finish: Under 1 minute.
To re-enable switch repeat above, but plug in switch .
Hardly rocket science .

Just don't operate the switch when hard top is on.
I don't even know if mine move or not when hard top is on. Never tried putting soft top up with hard top on.
If anything, the motor will torque out and you will quickly be reminded you cant put the top up. Should not cause any damage as the torque sensors are for preventing any damage if soft top is stuck for any reason.

Hi
Some sparky can comment here.
What if I took the live wire from the soft top switch to my hazard switch and then to the soft top switch and powered the soft top only when the hazard is ON.
Crazy/plausible ?

Just unplug the switch - you don't actually need to remove the gear knob either - just lift up the centre console, and voila, there it is.
Zero point in faffing around with the electrics when there is a much easier 30 second solution at your disposal.
to everyone btw.

For some reason I thought when you plug in the heated screen for the hard top it by passed the switch to activate the soft top.
I could of course completely dreamt that but cant honestly say ive tried the switch with the hardtop on anyway.
08 car if that makes any difference

Use the hardtop mounts with the soft top motor/heating disable already fitted?
How have you wired the hardtop in? There is just a single connection to make/break to disable the soft top motor and heater, on my car loom it is the thinner green wire in the hardtop loom connection, connect to earth to switch over to hardtop heater and disable soft top motors (assuming you have a hardtop compatible main loom = face-lift models - iirc the pre-facelifts may need some additional wiring in the car).

Just had a look at the wiring diagrams, each motor has its own fuse No55 and No52, I don't know where they are located but just pull those till you want to use the soft top again.
SIMPLES!
There's also a plug called the emergency soft top connector under the dash shown in the manual, again don't ask me where but it's there to be pulled so you can operate the top manually, it just seems to disconnect the motors.
EDIT- Found the fuses, in the box next to the battery, two 20A blue fuses right in the middle of the box.
