Width isn't really what the OP needs anyway if he is concerned about strait line traction, width is more for lateral grip which is why I run them (and N/A mind you) A taller 275/40 tire option has a longer contact patch which would be best for strait line. Couple that with the compound I suggested and it will do the trick. A 275/40 or 275/35 if 18's would be a taller overall diameter along with width to get a good contact patch down for all around boosted performance. 255 can work too, its just your going to sacrifice some longevity and temperament in a more aggressive compound to make up some contact patch deficit. I had wheel spin in 2nd gear with my 450whp Supercharged set up with my Kumho XS 295's and sometimes in 3rd gear if the conditions weren't right. If you ran a R comp like an NT01 in a 255, that would be near equivalent to slightly better probably if warmed up properly. But its the street, so conditions are all over the place.

Always have run staggered. Never felt the need to bias the car to more over steer then it already has. I dont run a rear wing on the track either, so added rear tire helps keep the car feeling planted and balanced in the slow and high speed stuff. 14k springs all around, with stock 00-01/CR front sway and ap2 rear sway bar, Bliss

18" x 9.5" +45 wheel is better suited for a 255. You COULD run a 275/35 but probably need a fender pull at that point. 265/35 might be a good compromise. 265 and 275 are oddball sizes, diameter match is going to be off compared to stock. I guess if you don't mind the higher gearing it could work out for you.

I didn't catch what the offset was on that wheel. But assuming its a +45, no a 275 wont fit. You need a wheel that's +55 at very minimum in the rear to accommodate a 275 and that's going to be best served on a 10"-10.5 wide wheel. Your better off sticking to a sticky 255, unless you want to start really narrowing your options down to a few wheels, or going custom widening or multi piece.

the front would work great with a 225, the rear with the +38 might be more work to fit, slight pull on the rear to fit a 255. a 245 would be fine, but the 255 is gonna take a little extra massaging and camber. -2 or -2.5 rear, depends on the 255 you throw on.

For a normal alignment you have to pull the front fenders even if the car isn't lowered. If you roll the car enough into a corner your fender will catch the tyre.

See below. I have PSS9s in this photo with just under a two finger gap at the fronts and 1 degree of negative camber. i believe my AD08Rs are quite meaty for a 255 but i dont imagine anything else remotely fitting anyway.
The tyre sticks out by 1/2 an inch.

Those tires run wide, but from the looks of it he is on 9 +45 all around.

I wouldn't advise you to go with those +38. Too aggressive an offset for a 255 tire.
