Got my '06 S2000 in '10 as I wentt into retirement. Fun,fair weather summer driver without the worries of the Boxster I originally wanted.

New REO50 rears put on when I got it from the dealer with 25k miles.

Fronts got replaced at about 31K with RE50s.

Now the rears are about finished at 35k miles ( I'm sure I'm not the only one who wears out rears 2x,3x faster than fronts)

I hate to scrap good front tires ( go thru this w. my old 911 too)so my plan is to go for two rear RE50s. I also like the idea that the car was tuned/designed for them.

BUT...

Looking on Tirerack, I see whole sets of perf tires for ths S2000 costing less than the two Bridgestones!

I drive hard but only in nice top down weather

Appreciate any inputs,experiences and opinions

they cost lest then 2 bridgestones for a reason...
do yourself a favor and buy good tires

I was in a similar boat. In 2013 I had just retired and purchased a 2008 S2000 with 10k miles and the original RE50 tires. I replaced them with Bridgestone S04 tires for a few reasons: 1) I wanted to up the size to 225/17 in front and 255/17 in rear and the S04 was available in that size 2) the price was reasonable 3) very good reviews on Tire Rack and the best (IMO) in the price range. I've put about 7,000 miles on the tires and am very happy. I expect to get about 25k from these tires but the rears will likely go first. I am down here in Florida where its hot and humid and we do get torrential showers from time to time - the tires have behaved very well. An added bonus was a much more comfortable ride with the S04 vs. older RE50s. I think part of the reason is that the RE50 are run flat (I think, not positive) while the S04 are not and have a softer side wall.

You'll love Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I know I do. But for just a nice weather top down cruise, can't beat those.

I think all three should be fine. The latter two might be better in the rain than the S04. Instead of throwing them out, you could try selling your fronts too.

rears are bald, fronts have 5k miles.

I may take the fronts home and store in case I want to go back.

Which leads to another question-

REO50s lasted 10-11k for rears, about 30k in front.

How do the other options wear?

( not sure why I'm asking, I'm 66 and at the rate I put on miles I'll be lucky if I can get in or out of the car when these wear out)

It's normal Gerry,we usually go through 2 set of rears,for one set of front,even if you don't drive hard,and that is with any brand of tires.
