Improved Performance

With the introduction of the 11th generation Honda Civic, the Japanese manufacturer has seemingly taken a back step in terms of daring styling. The more tamed look of the new Civic bears the same DNA as the larger Accord. With the shift in attitude also comes a significant improvement in performance. And the 2022 Civic Si serves to prove just that.

For the Enthusiast

The Civic Si has always been a true drivers' car. The sporty Honda has been designed throughout the decades with an engaging experience, but also one that doesn't compromise practicality. That perfect balance of weekend and daily has made the Si a highly popular choice among young enthusiasts. The 2022 model continues that tradition, offering a number of performance upgrades over the previous generation. And importantly, the 6-speed manual transmission is the only available gearbox for the car.

Tuned

Mated to the same 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, the Civic Si's 6-speed also receives the Type R's rev-matching tech as standard. Interestingly, though, the powertrain has now been detuned, producing 5 less ponies that the outgoing version's 205 horsepower. The 200-HP will be distributed more efficiently over the rev range, though, thanks to the new tune.

Subtle Aero

A stark contrast from the aesthetic of the previous generation, the new Civic features a far more straightforward look. And the Si add-ons are rather subtle, as well. The sportier Civic gets a slightly enhanced front fascia, with a piano black front splitter. This element is mirrored at the rear with a trunk-lid spoiler. Honda claims both of these features have aerodynamic functionality.

Look and Feel

The other largely distinguishing factor with the new Civic Si is the wheels. 18-inches in diameter and with an athletic 10-spoke design, the rolling stock does a lot for the car's proportions. Sitting on a lower, more aggressive suspension system further enhances the look. Plus, with a 13% increase in frame rigidity, 8% added spring stiffness at the front and a whopping 54% increase at the rear in comparison to the standard model, the Si will be ready to handle all the curves one throws at it.

Manual For the Win

The cabin will, of course, be getting a set of upgrades as well. The most prominent of these has to be the two-tone Si bucket seats. Other sporty touches include matching red accent stitching around the interior, and metal-plated pedals. Ultimately, though, the stronger selling factor for us would be the manual-only transmission setup. And we're sure that's the case with most other enthusiasts, too.
