Mashed Up

Many artists have tried their hand at mashing up vehicles over the years - heck, there are entire Instagram accounts dedicated to doing exactly that. Thus, we've come across a couple of very unusual renderings where someone has slapped the front end of another vehicle onto the front of the S2000, and the results were predictably awful. However, these new renderings from artist Henry Andrus mashing up an S2000 with a Boxster's fixed-roof counterpart, the Cayman, aren't the most terrible thing we've ever seen, though the end result is still a bit strange.

Natural Foes

The S2000 and Boxster aren't exactly direct rivals, but they're often cross-shopped as a drop-top, two-seat sports cars that are both quite fun to drive. The S2000 is a mid-engine vehicle while the Boxster employs a mid-engine layout, though the latter historically cost a bit more than the former. Regardless, in this rendering, Andrus combines the two rivals (well, the Cayman at least) into one somewhat interesting rendering.

Alternate Universe

In an alternate universe, it's quite possible that the S2000 could have stuck around and been transformed into a pricier, more exotic mid-engine vehicle with a long hood and a fixed roof for those that crave a bit more performance. Heck, the popular thing to do these days is spin off a successful model into its own unique brand.

Fixed Roof

The S2000 certainly has the clout for such a move and could have stood alone atop its own unique brand, or perhaps even as simply a line of sports cars within Honda's lineup. At the very least, a coupe offering would likely have proven popular for those that aren't interested in the open-air experience.

Some Benefits

On the plus side, those that are more interested in setting new lap records than hitting the back roads could appreciate the added stiffness and structural integrity brought on by a fixed roof, even though the S2000 didn't seem to suffer from some of the negatives a lot of drop tops do.

Natural Combination?

As for whether or not the S2000's front end looks at home on a Cayman, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We actually think that it works in this case, mainly because both cars are curvy, which makes the combination look a bit more natural than most.

Stranger Things

Of course, such exercises are highly unlikely to ever result in something real, but they're fun, nonetheless. We doubt that anyone is going to run out and give their Cayman an S2000 fascia swap, but then again, stranger things have certainly happened.
