Camper NSX Gets Half-Chopped NSX Trailer

Who would think to turn the mid-engine Honda into a camping vehicle, and then add a chop up another NSX to use as a trailer for the first one?

A Strange Sight

It's almost a disorienting sight to behold at first glance. It's not every day you see a mid-engine sports car towing the rear half of the same sports car. But that's exactly what Chris Cut's home-built NSX Camper package displays! After having the standalone car featured on MotorTrend last year, Chris went to work to give his campground-ready NSX even more... NSX!

Adding to the Camping NSX

When we first saw the car last year with a custom-built tent and support system, it certainly presented itself as an unusual application for an NSX. Many off-roading and camping enthusiasts, who criticized the Honda's ground clearance and questioned its practicality at campgrounds. But much to their chagrin, Chris Cut has doubled down on the project and added a trailer to the mix.

Ready to Take on All Terrain

Realistically, the nay-sayers would be correct in assuming that the car's ride height is too low for unpaved trails. However, Chris' adjustable suspension setup actually allows for up to 8.5 inches of clearance. This helps the vehicle navigate more tricky terrain. And that brings us to the star of the show, and that's the trailer. Before you get angry at the sight of a poor NSX seemingly cut in half, let's hear him out!

Totaled Twice

Honda enthusiasts across the world be relieved to know that the NSX Chris used to build his gnarly trailer out of was a car that had been totaled twice. It had been damaged in the rear first, then repaired. And again totaled due to damage in the front, which meant it couldn't receive a title anymore. And for those who might advocate for turning it into a track machine, (as would we) Chris assures us the damage to the front had caused bends in the pillars and cracks in the frame. So the cost of bringing it back to life would have been way more than reasonable for him.

Home-Made

All of the fabrication work took place inside Chris' garage. The process has been nicely documented on his YouTube channel, for all who plan to follow in his unorthodox footsteps! The half-NSX now has built-in support for the tent, while the roof of the drivable car now carries the custom storage box on a full-time basis.

Cool Surprise

A nifty surprise that can be found behind the clever custom door of the trailer NSX is this '80s Honda gem: the Motocompo. It was designed to fit inside the truck of the Honda City. It was meant to serve as an easy transport for busy city streets. And with stow-away seats, handlebars, and pegs, the tiny motorcycle can be easily carried in the cargo space. Chris plans on using it to roam around campgrounds, as well as to use it for its intended purpose, which is to transport him around busy city streets.

Dream Camper

All elements of this package have been designed with matching colors and features. The trailer even has the same black trim and the same wheels as the drivable NSX. Chris plans to put this awesome setup to use as he travels across the country. He also looks to continue to add to the project, so follow along with his progress on his channel.
