Civic Si Produces 600HP and Has Four Doors

With a massive turbo, reworked internals, custom body panels and interior modifications, this Civic Si is still a 'street' build.

Built at Home

One quick glance at this crazy-looking monster and you'll know this is no ordinary Honda Civic. Far from it. This awesome 8th-gen Civic Si is Ken Suen's "street" car build. Most of the fabrication and customization in this monster Honda has been done by the owner himself, in his garage, using skills he's gained from years of customizing cars.

Big Red Jr.

Named "Big Red Jr.", this isn't Suen's first stab at a track-ready Honda Civic. In fact, the original Big Red is his dedicated track car. With this one, however, his aim was to create the fastest street-tire car at Buttonwillow CW13. So he got to work customizing every aspect of this Civic.

Long Way From Home

It doesn't take a trained eye to recognize the extensive custom work that has gone into Big Red Jr. This little beast once belonged to a friend of Suen's. And he had to spend months trying to convince his buddy to sell him the car. It was clean and in great shape. The perfect starting point for the big project.

Under the Hood

And onto the engine bay. The philosophy behind this engine build is one of simplicity. The Civic has been fitted with Darton sleeved and O-ringed RSX bottom end. Complete with a JE Pistons and Saenz 4340 rod combo, as well as a Ferrea-loaded RBC head. Adding to an already impressive setup is a BorgWarner EFR 8474 regulated by a TurboSmart internal wastegate.

606 Horses to the Wheel

The incredible package is capable of a mind-boggling 606 horsepower at the wheels. But it's not as hard to drive as you might think. After all, this is a street car. While it might be a monster on the track, Big Red Jr.'s street performance is manageable, too. There are maps created that range from 450 horsepower to 600, in 50-horsepower increments.

Solid Build

The cabin still very much has a street-able feel. The original seats have obviously been replaced with Bride Zeta III, and aside from the addition of roll bars and a new steering wheel, most of the interior remains untouched. Kudos to Ken Suen for a stunning build. Yet another example of the raw potential hidden in these four-door city cars...
