We might be more interested in seeing this FIA World Touring Car Cup safety car than the actual competition.

Safety First

The automotive enthusiast world has always held a particular fascination with pace cars and safety cars, one that's spawned a few production replicas over the years. And while we most certainly won't be able to go out and buy this Type R Limited safety car as a replica, it sure will be nice to look at when it's pacing upcoming FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) races.

Few Changes

Of course, WTCR is no joke, as it's the highest form of touring car competition there is. So the series' pace car has to have some kind of performance pedigree, which is what makes the Type R Limited a perfect fit. In track form, the car will of course be slightly different than the production version, with a few select upgrades other than that cool livery.

Track Prepped

The base color of the safety car is Phoenix Yellow, just like its production counterpart. It rides on 20-inch forged BBS alloy wheels, which are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Underneath those lie floating two-piece brake discs, and the interior has been stripped out to save a pretty substantial 104 pounds over a regular Type R.

Power Broker

In terms of power production, the Type R Limited safety car is stock, which means that it's packing a turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that produces 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which should be more than enough to get the job done.

Quick Draw

Those that want their own, road-going version of the Type R Limited will have to be quick on the draw, because only 600 will be available when the car releases in the U.S. Canadian customers bought up all of the examples available north of the border very quickly, and the special model figures to sell out here as well.

Production Version

Those buyers will be getting most of the perks present on the safety car, including the special paint, wheels/tires, recalibrated steering, and 46 pounds of weight reduction. They'll also receive the new Honda LogR Datalogger System, which measures track performance in real-time.

Match Made in Heaven

The Honda Civic Type R Limited safety car will be present on the track for a total of six rounds of the championship this year. It'll be joined by four Honda Civic Type R TCR racers that'll be out there competing for the top prize. And if that isn't a match made in heaven, we don't know what is.
