Mild to Wild

Diecast cars are arguably as popular as ever, attracting fans of all ages - young folks for obvious reasons, as they love to dream of the day they can own cool cars in real life, and adults who enjoy revisiting a beloved part of their childhood. However, the folks behind the YouTube channel Jakarta Diecast Project take things a bit further by customizing diecasts like this very cool S2000 that recently went from mild to wild.

Multiple Variations

This particular miniature S2000 started out as a regular old Hot Wheels model that launched back in 2010. In the time since, that company has released over 30 different versions of the same model, taking full advantage of the popularity that the S2000 has enjoyed for most of its existence.

Finer Details

This particular model is not terribly valuable or collectible, however, which means that it's prime for customization. What follows is a pretty lengthy clip of this entire process, though we found ourselves truly mesmerized watching the finer details of this ride come together.

Delicate Process

The team starts by disassembling the model and taking the body off the chassis, at which point the factory paint is removed using a Dremel tool. Then, wider fenders are made from scratch to give it a proper JDM look, which are cleaned up with a knife and some careful sanding.

Finest Details

If the amazing bodywork done here isn't enough to impress you, even the engine was replaced, which is pretty bonkers to us. In its place, JDP installed a "turbocharged" powerplant in a highly detailed engine bay, which is covered by a "carbon fiber" hood with large vents for cooling purposes, if this was a real car, of course.

Over the Top

There's also a carbon fiber roof and a massive rear wing that is more than a bit over the top, but that's pretty much the point here - create something that truly captures the essence of JDM style, albeit in a tiny replica that those of us with large hands would struggle to replicate.

Doing It Well

It's difficult to stress the sort of skill and patience required to complete such a project without watching it in action, and in that regard, we came away extremely impressed by JDP's work here. After all, this is something that anyone can do, but doing it well is a different story altogether.
