Staying Power

Honda's S2000 has been out of production for years now, and yet it remains one of the strongest enthusiast followings of any car model - ever. And that's not by coincidence. The S2000 is an amazing car with tremendous staying power. But there's also much more to the story, as Super Street found out recently when they gathered up six S2000 owners for a cruise up to one of California's most iconic roads - Angeles Crest Highway.

Perfect Representation

The mix of cars chosen for this special voyage are all quite unique in their own right. This is no coincidence, given the diversity you'll find among S2000 owners and their cars. And the group also accurately represents a good portion of S2Ki enthusiasts as well. "These fellas weren't your typical car show whores looking for the next trophy," Super Street noted. "Nor were they overly confident track junkies. Instead, they're the down-to-earth guys that simply enjoy driving their S2000s on the weekends, while also having been in the game long enough to comprehend the 'do's and don'ts' of modifying an S2000."

Good Taste

Despite their diversity, the cars on this trip all share a few things in common. Namely, good taste. "High-quality and JDM parts are seen throughout each build, such as track-proven Voltex aero, J's Racing components, and Spoon bolt-ons, as well as RAYS and Advan wheels," SS said. And though many of them use similar parts, each car is wholly unique from the rest.

Fine Wine

SS also notes that the S2000 has aged "like fine wine," and is still something truly special after 20 years of existence. That can be attributed to its original design, which is the purest of the pure. Not to mention styling that's stood up to the test of time as well. "The two-seater roadster has aged like fine wine and looks as sporty on the road today as it did in 2000," SS said.

Magical Chassis

The magic, however, lies underneath that handsome skin. "Its handling characteristics beg for canyon driving and weekend track days," SS notes. "In fact, at any given track day across America, you're likely to find a modified S2000 throwing down surprisingly quick lap times despite its naturally aspirated powertrain."

Purpose Build

Regardless, this pack of non-forced induction cars is more about cruising than car show trophies or record lap times. And that's perfectly fine, too. The great thing about the S2000 is that it can be whatever you want it to be. It's quite a diverse machine and does many things well. Perhaps best of all, it'll bring a smile to your face.

Taking a Break

We found this little photographic journey to be rather refreshing, a nice break from the high dollar, drool-worthy show cars. And so did SS, obviously. "We all need a break from the typical car show environments and also to enjoy the fruits of our project cars, especially if they're something as fun-to-drive and special as Honda's iconic S2000." Because really, isn't that what attracted us to these cars in the first place?
