Reliving the Magic

While most automotive events in 2020 have been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Global Time Attack was able to hold its year-end event, as planned, with no problems. It was there, at Buttonwillow Raceway north of Bakersfield, California, that not only did the event go off without a hitch, but a number of new records were set to boot. Thankfully, Super Street was there to capture all of the action in the flesh so that we can experience it as well.

Shaving Seconds

Over 60 cars showed up to participate in the finale, which is pretty close to what we saw last year, prior to the pandemic settling in. And as usual, the field featured more than its fair share of S2000s. At the end of the day, a total of seven records fell, including Amir Bentatou's hostile takeover of the S-RWD record in his NSX, as he shaved seconds off the previous mark.

Proving the Platform

Furthermore, the entire remainder of the Street Class was reset thanks mostly to the newest Honda Civic Type R. Jose Mejia and Noah Gaither both claimed new records in their FK8s, in the S-FWD and Enthusiast FWD classes respectively, further proving that platform's worth on the track.

S2000 Results

Meanwhile, Joshua Reyes claimed victory in the Enthusiast Class behind the wheel of his S2000, while Jason Parraga landed a fifth-place finish in the same class in his own Honda roadster. In the street class, Dustin Dessero finished sixth, with Son Vo one spot behind him, Dustin Williams came in 15th, while Ray Clantz faced some troubles and officially wrapped up his day with a DNF.

Other Hondas

Meanwhile, plenty of other Hondas vied for position in pretty much every class. That includes the Enthusiast class, where Noah Gaither snagged fourth place in his Civic Type R, and Austin Shipley came in 10th in his Type R.

Rounding Out

In the Street class, Jose Meija finished 8th in his Type R, while Vincent Del Campo scored 12th in his Civic EG, Carlos Valenzuela grabbed 14th in his Type R, Ivan Carl Antonio finished 19th in his Civic Si, and Nicolas Zambrano came in 20th in his Si. The Limited class saw a few more Type Rs in competition, including ones run by Graham Downey and Bobby Velasquez.

Great Finish

All-in-all, this year's Global Time Attack organizers couldn't have asked for a better way to close out the weird and complicated season than this. Hopefully, by the time the organization opens up for next season, things will be back to normal, however.
