Civic Type R

Here in the U.S., we often take for granted the fact that we have the very best versions of most cars from most manufacturers. The Civic Type R is one such model. And though they're not as readily available on dealer lots as the base Civic, the Type R's brilliant performance has been unleashed on American roads for a few years now.

Not in India

But given the fact that the hot hatch iteration of the Civic had been missing in the U.S. market for quite a long time, we can sympathize with Honda enthusiasts in India, who still do not have the Type R available for sale in the region. But the problem has led to a creative solution in this particular case.

Homemade Conversion

The Honda Civic sedan is the only variation of the model that is available in India. So one huge fan of the Type R decided to modify the sedan and fit it with parts from the hot hatch Honda and create their own sporty Civic. The mods start with the front fascia and continue down the sides, and all the way to the rear end of the car, where you'll find the Type R wing.

Customizations

At the front, the bumper cover has been replaced and the splitter has been added. The trim around the headlights and the grille have also been blacked out. You will also find the Type R side skirts on this sedan. And at the back, a replacement bumper cover, tri exhaust pipes, and of course, the wing round off the tail. By the looks of it, the suspension of the base Civic has been kept stock, and so have the wheels.

Sedan Type R?

A surprisingly well-done conversion, for sure. But this custom Civic Type R look-alike has us wondering if a sedan Type R would perhaps be something worth looking into for Honda. It certainly looks pretty interesting, with somewhat of a Subaru WRX STi competitor vibe. And it likely wouldn't be too difficult to engineer, given the similarities between the hatchback and sedan Civic. What do you think of the idea of a sedan Civic Type R?
