TAS

Japan's premiere vehicle aftermarket show, the Tokyo Auto Salon took place last month. This year's show was a virtual exhibition, with OEMs and aftermarket manufacturers showing off their cool concepts online, much like our own SEMA Show late last year. And like SEMA, the 2021 TAS has some amazing builds on display.

No Shortage of Fun

The lack of an in-person event didn't stop exhibitors from bringing their top-notch concepts to the virtual floor, Honda included. Several concepts geared towards the Japanese market were unveiled by Honda. They even made it interactive for fans, creating a competition to design the livery for their concepts.

E-Drag

And as uniquely adorable as most of Honda's concepts at the show were, this e-Drag concept is the most interesting in our eyes. The build is a drag race machine that features a number of weight-saving measures in place, as well as modified suspension and NSX wheels. Everything behind the front row of seats has been stripped-out, and a full roll cage is in place.

Racing Interior

Other weight-saving features include carbon-fiber body panels. The driver and passenger seats are replaced with racing bucket seats with a 5-point racing harness. Structural modifications also help reduce the drag racing EV's mass. And much of the interior trim has been removed to... you guessed it: save weight!

All About the Weight

As far as we know, the powertrain remains unaltered. In stock form, the Honda E's battery-powered motors are capable of 232 lb-ft of torque, propelling the compact city car from zero to 62 miles per hour in about 8 seconds. So all the acceleration gains are presumed to be achieved through weight reduction. And the playful livery rounds the car out perfectly, hinting at the car's character.
