Electrifying Rendering

While it's hard for S2000 fans to imagine the car without its high-revving four-cylinder powerplant, that hasn't stopped countless artists from dreaming up future electric versions of Honda's iconic roadster. The latest comes to us from Rain Prisk, who applied some futuristic Honda styling to the S2000 to come up with this intriguing rendering, which once again explores the idea of electrification.

Inspired Design

The rendering clearly takes inspiration from the Club Racer, but thoroughly modernizes the S2000's shape in every conceivable way. The double-bubble rear deck is a clear sign of this, though the front end design is clearly inspired by the 11th generation Civic

Classic Feel

The low-slung, curvaceous roadster certainly looks nothing like the S2000 of old, but the DNA is there at least. Here we have a two-seat open-air machine with one singular focus - providing a vintage sports car driving experience. The question remains, however - is that possible with an electric drivetrain?

Some Benefits

Most S2000 fans will say no, and they have a point. Unfortunately, our opinions don't really matter in that regard, because it sure feels like electric power is the future. Regardless, there are some benefits to EVs, like instant torque, that somewhat make up for the lack of pleasing engine noises.

Ruined Legacy?

Others would argue that it's better to leave the S2000 as-is and not ruin its legacy with a new version, and that's a fair point as well. But if Honda does decide to resurrect the nameplate in the future, it would most certainly be as a rear-wheel-drive open-air cruiser with a low, center-mounted battery pack to provide sublime handling.

Cheaper Alternative

The idea of a new S2000 EV isn't anything out of the ordinary, especially since Tesla is preparing to launch another version of its very first model - the Roadster. However, that car will start out at a whopping $200k, which means there's room for a less expensive, not quite as quick open-air EV sports car in the market. The question is, will Honda be the one to make it?
