RHD S2000 Presents U.K. Buyers With Risk/Reward Opportunity

Used S2000s don't get much cleaner than this AP1, even though it has a few miles on the clock.

Clean Example

The S2000 isn't quite as common a sight in some countries as it is in the U.S. and Japan, but in the U.K., there are quite a few nice examples out there for sale. That includes this very clean AP1 up for grabs at Barclay Motor Company. This particular example may have 158,000 miles on the clock, but it's clearly been well-taken care of over the years.

Comfortable Purchase

While there are a few low-mile stock S2000s out there that sell for big bucks, finding an unmodified, less expensive, and higher-mile car isn't always easy. This car certainly fits that bill, and the fact that its stock makes it a more comfortable purchase in our book.

Low Asking Price

Despite these good attributes, the asking price seems rather low - £6,995, or just a hair under $9,000 U.S. dollars. And in this car's case, despite its mileage, most of that was acquired early on. The AP1 has averaged less than 2,000 miles per year since 2013. Regardless, there is one concern that might be scaring potential buyers away.

Potential Issue

Apparently, the car failed an MOT test back in 2014 for having excessive rust near one of the seat belt anchors. The next year, it was noted that the S2000 had corrosion setting in throughout the vehicle. Regardless, it does appear that these issues have been corrected in the time since.

Risk and Reward

There's also no record of service history, which could be another potential risk, but plenty of S2000 owners do those sorts of things themselves. Despite these risks, we'd be tempted to pull the trigger given the low price.

Closer Look

After all, the rest of the car is quite clean for the most part. But truthfully, we'd have to climb underneath and do a very good inspection to ensure that the rust problems have been taken care of.

Only Takes One

Regardless, there's at least one person out there that won't be scared to take on a potential project like this. And if the purported problems turn out to be moot points, they'll be walking away with a pretty nice deal, indeed.
