Pursuit of Uniqueness

As inherently unique the S2000 is, the aftermarket customization surrounding the Honda has become a subculture of its own. And over 2 decades since the introduction of the legendary roadster, we've seen just about every type of S2000 project a human brain can conceive of. So it's not easy to find one we can genuinely call a unique creation. But creating a one-of-a-kind S2000 was his goal from the beginning.

Too Good to be True

Back in 2012 when this car was featured on Fast Car, it was definitely a more shocking proposition than it might seem like now. But its Nissan heart is still quite the oddity. When Stewart picked the car up from an auction, though, the engine swap wasn't quite the plan. But the deal that seemed too good to be true proved to be too good to be true indeed. The engine gave out almost immediately after he purchased it.

Nissan Heart

Instead of giving up on his new adventure, he began formulating a plan to get the Honda back on the road. A friend made the seemingly ridiculous suggestion of putting an SR20 motor under the hood of the car. It was an idea Stewart laughed at initially. But soon after, he realized that was exactly the type of challenge he wanted to undertake in order to make his S2000 stand out from the crowd.

Perfect Fit

Over the next few days, Stewart sourced the SR20 along with the transmission to replace the Honda's broken power plant. Somewhat to his surprise, fitting the new powertrain and drivetrain wasn't very difficult. The Nissan parts fit nicely underneath the S2000. The big hurdle was the electrical side of things.

Turbocharged

A huge advantage of the SR20 is also its versatility. To that end, Stewart wanted to extract some real power from the motor by adding in a Garret T28 turbocharger. With the help of an intercooler and custom pipes, the roadster was a completely new beast, and ready to rock and roll.

Finishing Touches

The visual modifications were kept relatively minimal. Being a painter himself, it was only a matter of time before he decided to give the car its own unique hue. The bodywork also included rolling the fenders, and he rounded things off with those extra rare Blitz 003 wheels. Perhaps the most impressive part of the whole thing was the fact that he was told he had 4 days to get everything done and have the car ready for the Fast Car photoshoot. And that's another challenge he took on and succeeded.
