S2000 Nearly Hits 200 MPH In Half-Mile Run
Stuart Leiby's S2000 is easily one of the most impressive we've seen in a long time, if not ever.
Dominant Performance
Despite the fact that the S2000 was designed more as a corner carver than a straight-line performer, that hasn't stopped lots of folks from building dominant drag racers from Honda's excellent platform. And among that impressive bunch, perhaps none are as capable as Stuart Leiby's incredible machine, which came ever-so-close to hitting 200 mph in the half-mile, a feat that can be seen in this footage from 1320video.

Going For 200
Leiby managed to hit an incredible 199.6 mph in the half-mile at this recent event, which is obviously a record for the S2000. But his goal is to crack that 200 mph mark, which seems to be easily achievable at this point given these results.

Packing Power
Leiby's S2000 is still packing an F22C under the hood, but it has obviously been treated to a host of modifications, though the factory block and crank are still there. The rest of the internals have been fortified with forged rods and pistons, helping to support the power added by aftermarket cams and a 67.9 mm turbo.

Big Gains
Altogether, this combination is said to produce over 1,000 horsepower at the wheels, which is obviously enough to propel the lightweight roadster to incredible speeds in very little time. It also necessitated that the original six-speed transmission was replaced with a heavy-duty Quaife sequential gearbox.

Serious Numbers
That four-digit power flows through the fortified transmission and a carbon-fiber driveshaft to a rear-end sourced from a Nissan 300ZX to form a bulletproof combination capable of some seriously impressive numbers at any drag strip.

Daily Driver
In addition to its high-speed half-mile performances, this S2000 also runs low 8s in the quarter-mile, which is absolutely blazing. But perhaps even more impressively, Leiby drives the car on the street quite a bit, including on his daily commute to an from work.

Pushing the Envelope
But at this point, none of these things should really surprise us. The S2000 has proven time and time again that it's one of the most capable and versatile platforms on the planet, one capable of doing just about anything well. And we certainly look forward to Leiby's continued efforts to push the envelope in that regard.
