Avoiding Disaster

Most of us have dreams of the perfect track day, where we cut the perfect apex, nail every shift, and set new personal best lap times in the process. But on the other side of the spectrum, track days can also give us the worst possible thing that could happen - a crash. This particular video from Xav_ S2000 depicts such carnage, but thankfully the driver walked away fine, and the car narrowly escaped smashing into a barrier.

Normal Start

The clip starts out innocently enough when our Honda driver gets passed up by a Volkswagen Golf R32 Mk5 on the Nurburgring. The cars keep driving on with no problem until you see the VW begin to brake coming around a left-hand turn. And that's when things almost go south for both drivers.

Danger Lurks

Around the corner, there is a group of bikes stopped on both sides of the track, their riders trying to help a fellow biker who had clearly had some sort of accident. The Golf manages to react in time to avoid hitting anyone or losing control, but the S2000 driver isn't quite so lucky.

Disaster Strikes

The S2000 driver hits the brakes hard and grabs the shifter, but the car loses traction and there's no way to recover at this point. In a fraction of a second, the Honda driver loses control completely and spins out, narrowly avoiding the side barrier. It's enough to make you gasp, that's for sure.

Could Have Been Worse

As soon as he got his wits about him, the Honda driver did the smart thing and immediately pulled out of the way behind the VW. Otherwise, things could have obviously gotten much worse if another car came around the corner blind. And it appears that he thankfully didn't strike any of the bikers who were standing nearby, too.

Looking Ahead

Things here could have ended much differently, but thankfully, they worked out about as well as you could hope. The owner of the S2000 did mention in the comments that the car didn't suffer any damage, which is pretty amazing. But we're not so sure that he won't be looking a little further ahead the next time he's out for a fun track day.
