Second Choice S2000 Turns out to Be Number One

This wasn't even the color S2000 the owner wanted. But now, 14 years later, we'd say he's cool with it.

Forever Car

It's funny how life works sometimes. We enthusiasts tend to covet cars, but we're also very fickle. We think we know what we want, but then we tend to change our minds most of the time. That cannot be said about S2KI member sam_spider, however. He has owned this S2000 since way back in 2005, and for the last several years, he's been documenting his build right here in the forums.

One Day

Funny thing is, however, this particular color wasn't Sam's favorite at the time. "Bought the car in July of 2005 after almost buying a Mazdaspeed Miata. Berlina was not my first choice, but as it was all they had at the local dealer (and my wife didn't want to wait) I said yes and drove it home. I Signed up here within a day or so of buying it and started looking through all the aftermarket stuff available and all the other cars in the gallery, and said to myself: 'one day.'"

Short Wait

As is typical with these kinds of situations, Sam didn't have to wait too long for "one day" to come around. Soon, he had purchased a BYS carbon fiber spoiler (which wouldn't last long, either). And with just 2,000 miles on the clock, he attended his first event - Wake the Dragon, where he got to push his new ride to its very limits.

Convincing Times

That meet, it turns out, convinced Sam that he needed to make some additional purchases. "After a great long weekend and meeting a ton of really great people, I decided I needed to buy some stuff. I ordered a set of Muz mats in black with grey trim. Found a set of used Volk Evolution IV wheels on the forum and bought those, along with Eibach springs, HKS exhaust, new tires for the new wheels, a Comptech intake, and the crossmember cover thingy."

Custom Everything

Next year's Dragon meetup had the same effect, enticing Sam to buy new wheels and custom door panels, center console, and shifter boot, all stitched up in grey Alcantara. And he followed all that up by installing a pretty killer stereo system for these nice long trips.

Pace Car

The mods just kept coming, and soon, Sam began hanging out with his fellow Ohio S2000 enthusiasts. That prompted him to participate in the parade lap for the IndyCar race at Mid Ohio, which necessitated all the cool requisite stickers. And even though he got rained on, it was a totally worthwhile experience.

Show and Go

That, along with some trips to Chicago, were enough to convince him that he needed to invest in a hard top. And it was shortly after that that he decided it was time to start tracking the car. Thus, Sam picked up a second set of wheels, this time Volk LE28 Formulas. But in the meantime, this S2000 was still picking up awards at local car shows.

Track Addiction

Sam's first track action went down at the all-Honda West Michigan Honda Meet, an event that immediately got him hooked. He was soon participating in multiple track events and making little changes to his ride along the way.

Properly Dedicated

In the years since sam_spider has made more changes to his car than we can possibly count. But the biggest takeaway from all of this is that he's also incredibly dedicated to a car once considered his second choice. And how many of us can claim that sort of dedication to one singular car?
