Rumors

We've been hearing rumors of Honda bringing back the legendary S2000 roadster pretty much since it was discontinued in 2009. It seems that every year enthusiasts get excited about the possibility of a second generation S2K. But rumors have either been shut down by Honda, or fizzled away when it became clear no plans were in place.

Years of Waiting

The most tangible development with the roadster on the part of the Japanese manufacturer in the past decade was when they surprised fans with a 20th Anniversary edition, as seen in these photos. They offered these upgrade parts for those who already own the Honda, and want to give it a little bit of a fresher look.

Finally Some News?

But all of that changed a few days ago when Forbes reported that the S2000 may be making a comeback. According to the recent report, a source close to Honda has suggested that the Honda S2000 might be returning with a second generation in 2024, as a 25th-anniversary celebration.

A New S2000

These are still rumors, mind you, but it looks as though if the new S2000 is to be built, it could utilize a more potent version of the Civic Type R's 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. And assuming the engineers can keep the weight down below 3,000 pounds, the power-to-weight ratio will be significantly better than the original!

Keep Your Excitement Under Control!

Now, under normal circumstances, we would suggest that you keep your expectations low. After all, this isn't the first time such rumors have made the rounds. But it is 2020! So, a surprise like this wouldn't be the craziest thing to happen this calendar year. And if the credibility of Forbes still means anything, we believe it's okay to be cautiously optimistic... And get ready to clear up a spot in the garage in a few years!
