Long Term Project

For quite some time now, Super Street has been working on building/refurbishing an S2000 they originally picked up as part of their "Week to Wicked" series. We've been eagerly watching as this cool project goes through a series of transformations. The latest of which involved a complete overhaul of the engine bay

New Kit

This refresh includes the development of a brand new fan shroud kit, courtesy of Derale Performance. Once finished, this new kit will bolt right up to the car's Koyo Rad aluminum radiator. So since the Honda was going to be sitting for a while, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to get some other work done under the hood.

Ballin' on a Budget

This is a budget project, of course, so not a lot of cash was spent jazzing things up. The refresh starts with an old AP1 valve cover that SS cleaned up, then dropped off for powder coating. They also had a set of -10AN bungs welded on to vent the cover.

Little Insurance

SS also had a spare throttle body and air valve assembly kicking around, so they shipped them off for a flat black cerakote treatment. While out for coating, SS used some bolts to block off the essential threaded holes. This prevents them from being accidentally coated. This also provides insurance to ensure the proper threaded holes come back in their original condition.

Tight Fit

At this point, all of the OEM hoses and attachments could be swapped over to the new manifold. But removing the original piece proved to be a pain. Making use of a series of various extensions and wobble sockets, SS was able to finally navigate the tight space and get the job done.

Upgraded Hardware

SS utilized Downstar hardware to install the new manifold, which made the job much more pleasant. The company offers bolts, nuts, and washers individually, as compete for engine packages or engine bay kits. They also sell various suspension hardware, billet firewall block-off plates, and other pieces in a variety of colors and finishes.

Keep It Clean

In this case, SS utilized Downstar's F-Series Engine Hardware Kit, along with fender bolts and some 10mm fittings to make it all work. They went with black stainless-steel socket head bolts and billet aluminum washers for a super clean look.

Black Out

The next step was to replace the blue GReddy turbo kit couplers with some black pieces to continue the new theme. As you might imagine, this was a simple and direct swap. SS also removed the original division panel and had Design Craft give the piece a nice black wrinkled finish.

Nice Can

Next, SS tapped Jason Schmuck for a very cool overflow tank/catch can combo. This attractive metal piece replaces the factory plastic tank and bolts right into place. It also features two -10AN bungs, a breather port and filter, Vibrant Performance neck and cap, a clear-plastic level indicator on the overflow tank, dip stick on the catch can tank, and a drain point at the bottom of the can.

Stay Tuned

All of these budget upgrades promise to go a long way in jazzing up this S2000's engine bay. But there's much more on the way, obviously. So stay tuned as this cool, long-running project keeps improving with each and every update!
