Having to wait for the car to turn 25 years old to be imported from Canada, Alex Seto will have appreciated every second with the car even more.

Raw Potential

The now legendary first-generation NSX was introduced to the world in the early '90s. And with time, the every-man supercar's popularity has grown. Another thing about the car that has grown with time is people's desire to add more power to the capable platform. As much as well all love the NSX in stock form, owners are increasingly turning to the idea of modifications in hopes of maximizing the Acura's raw potential.

1991 NSX

One such enthusiast is my fellow New Jersey native, Alex Seto. In a painstakingly related car enthusiast story, Seto had been looking for a 1991 NSX for quite some time. And when he found this example in Canada, he had to wait a bit longer until the car was exactly 25 years old, so he could import it without issue. He wanted a 1991 for its hard top, as opposed subsequent models which came with targa tops.

Already Modified

The car was already modified with a Taitec wide body kit, a supercharger, a roll cage, among other custom additions. Though Alex liked the car the way it was, he always knew he wanted to make it his own. And so the project started with taking care of little issues to get it to a nice point to start the modifications.

Street-able Track Car

The objective with the project was to create a track ready beast that is comfortable enough to drive on the street. So creature comforts like A/C and Bluetooth sound system remain. While the initial plan was to keep the upgrades minimal, things eventually snowballed into a rather thorough build.

Long List of Mods

A new 6-speed transmission, a custom supercharger, and a specially-designed intercooler system were thrown into the mix. The engine was rebuilt and reinforced to withstand the additional power reliably. Tuning the supercharger to 8 PSI of boost brings the unit's output to 376horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque to the wheels.

Worth the Wait

While Alex told DSport that he's done with modifications for the NSX, he will also admit that project car are never really quite finished. For now, he will be enjoying the fruits of his labor. And he spoke to how much he's enjoyed the experience, sharing a piece of advice: "If anyone is on the fence about building their own vision, don’t wait.”
