Dream Car

The term "dream ride" is an overused one in the automotive enthusiast world. There's nothing particularly unique about growing up dreaming of owning a car, then eventually saving up the money to buy it. Trung Nguyen's amazing AP2 S2000 recently featured over at Super Street, certainly falls into that category, though his obsession with obtaining his dream car proved to be a bit more extreme than most.

Blank Canvas

Nguyen works at a BMW dealership, but ever since high school, he's dreamed of owning an S2000. The Canadian resident eventually saved up enough scratch to pick up a bare shell from a local auction that was a theft recovery, which needed a lot of work but was the perfect blank canvas to bring his long-awaited vision to life.

Change of Plans

Nguyen first built the car up as a track-focused machine before meeting fellow S2Ki member Nick Chow via the forums. The two became great friends, and with his help, Nguyen came up with an entirely new vision for his dream ride that required quite a few changes.

Harnessing Power

Under the hood, Nguyen treated his stock F22C1 to an HKS supercharger, ID1000 injectors, a T1R race header, Berk Technology exhaust, and Hondata KPro with a custom tune to help the AP2 belt out 376 horsepower on the dyno. Nguyen controls all of those ponies from an overhauled cockpit featuring Mugen MS-R carbon bucket seats, Takata harnesses, and a host of carbon fiber pieces.

Major Overhaul

The exterior of this AP2 has received a massive overhaul as well. The exterior parts list includes a host of Voltex goodies including a race front bumper with canards, side skirts, rear diffuser, and Type 7 GT wing. Other additions include EVS Tuning wide front fenders, a J's Racing CFRP bonnet, front and rear tow hooks, and a Mugen hardtop. The aero-laden S2000 was then covered in an attractive shade of Porsche 997 GT3 RS Grey Black paint.

Matching Pair

Nguyen utilizes two different sets of rolling stock. For the track, he uses 18x10" Volk Racing TE37 Saga wheels wrapped in Hankook Ventus TD tires measuring in at 285/30ZR18. On the street, he runs 18x10" Advan GT wheels with 285/30R18 Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 R tires. Regardless, both cover up Endless 6-piston calipers that help slow the car down in the corners.

Dual Purpose

The whole thing rolls on a Spoon Sports race-spec coilover suspension, which completes this amazing dual-purpose dream ride. It's a dark and sinister-looking machine and one that Nguyen is quite proud of, as he should be. But with a variety of changes already on tap, this S2000 is also proof that dreams can continue to evolve with time.
