Track-Focused Fun

It might not be the most powerful thing on the planet, but what the Toyota FR-S lacks in power it makes up for in fun. Especially when it's been built to conquer the track, as is the case with Speed Academy's FR-S. And since this Canadian outfit also owns a built S2000, why not pit one against the other at the track, as they do in this video

Square Setup

Adding to the intrigue here is the fact that both cars feature similar modifications. That includes the same exact tire setup - square 255 Continental ExtremeContact Sports at all four corners.

Power Up Top

The FR-S and its FA20 mill have been upgraded with a Jackson Racing supercharger and Tomei exhaust that helps boost output to 270 horsepower at the wheels. Much of that power is limited to the higher rev range, however.

Slight Disadvantage

The S2000 is at a bit of a disadvantage here, however, with a lesser 220 hp at the wheels. But of course, there is more to a track car than just outright raw power.

Upgrades Galore

Both cars are equipped with a host of suspension upgrades. The S2000 has received Eibach Multi-Pro R2 coilovers and sway bars, Stoptech brakes, Buddy Club USA hardened suspension bushings, an APR Performance rear wing, CR front lip, and a C3 Composites front splitter.

Going Fast(er)

The FR-S has been fortified with a KW suspension setup, adjustable rear lower control arms, AP Racing brakes, a Driveway Labs splitter and diffuser, and a Voltex Swan Neck wing.

Drag Racing

This battle kicks off with (what else?) a drag race. Despite the FR-S's 50 wheel hp advantage, the results are actually pretty close. The Toyota does pull away at the end thanks to its power band.

Fill the Gaps

Things get a little more serious out on the track, where our S2000 driver doesn't help himself by missing a gear right off the bat. But he quickly makes up ground in the corners with some later braking.

Seesaw Battle

Soon, our S2000 is right on the FR-S's tail, despite its major power disadvantage. The Toyota gains ground on the straights but loses it quickly to the more aggressively-geared Honda in the twisties.

Rematch?

Ultimately, these two machines prove to be well matched. Now, we'd just like to see a rematch, this time with a bit more power added to the S2000. Because if they were evenly matched in that regard, we don't think this would even be a contest.
