Mind Blowing Experience

The greatness that is the Honda S2000 is a well-known entity around these parts, but there are some folks out there that have still never driven one. It's always fun to see how people react when they do, because it's almost always a mind-blowing experience, even for those that have driven pretty much every kind of car that exists. Case in point - popular YouTuber David Patterson of the That Dude in Blue channel, who recently got the chance to drive this wild turbocharged S2000.

Power to Weight

Even in a heavier, larger vehicle, this S2000's turbocharged inline-four and its 650 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque would make it seriously fun to drive. But in a lighter vehicle like the S2000, that kind of output makes for one heck of a rowdy and somewhat sketchy driving experience. This car's power-to-weight ratio is a rather ridiculous 502 horsepower per ton.

First Timer

That number puts this particular S2000 in rarified company, right alongside the Bugatti Veyron and Porsche 918, which is pretty wild. It makes over 600 ponies at the wheels thanks to a bevy of modifications, including a sleeved block, forged internals, and a Turbonetics turbocharger, which is notable because this is the first time Patterson has driven a turbo'd S2000.

Four-Cylinder Viper

Even with giant wheels and slicks in the rear, this S2000 proves to be one heck of a handful as Patterson is immediately impressed upon smashing the go pedal for the first time. He even goes so far as to call this car a "four-cylinder Viper," as it drives quite a bit like that notoriously sketchy model.

Tame but Powerful

Of course, many would argue that the S2000 is perfect as-is, and it was certainly developed with a particular power level in mind. That's precisely what makes this ultra-powerful build a riot to drive, of course, though it's also quite tame under normal driving conditions, as Patterson notes.

Not for the Faint

Ultimately, however, Patterson says that this particular car is "not for the faint of heart," noting that it takes "a lot of focus" to drive safely when you get into the meat of the power band. But that's not really a surprise given the fact that this is a lightweight, short-wheelbase vehicle with prodigious amounts of power under the hood.

Different Beast

Turbochargers have become one of the more popular ways to add power to the S2000, and this test drive shows us why that's the case. These cars respond well to a boost in that regard, though it can also transform them into a totally different kind of beast, as is the case here.
