Small Gathering

Automotive parts selling giant Turn 14 Distribution has developed a reputation for building some of the coolest, wildest rides on the planet for each year's SEMA show, which unfortunately went completely virtual this year. Regardless, Turn 14 was keen to show off its latest two builds in the flesh and did so for a few select friends and family recently. Luckily, Super Street was on hand to capture both, because one of them was a very interesting S2000.

Seriously Unique

This particular S2000 was built by RyWire Motorsport Electronics' Ryan Basseri, who has developed quite a reputation for his custom Hondas. This time around, however, the theme is electrification, as this S2000 clearly hints at with its wild exterior appearance. It started out as a mere AP2 shell, which was donated by Ballade Sports, and then blossomed into one seriously unique build from there.

Futuristic Exterior

The exterior was treated to a custom Volkswagen-like front lower grille, as well as a molded-in Club Racer front lip. The side mirrors are from Spoon, while a set of futuristic wheels look like old school covers, yet feature a slit in each that shows off the car's StopTech brakes.

Big Clues

The interior provides even more clues as to what's really going on with this project, namely one big one in the center console. Inside the cabin, you'll find some familiar updates including Sparco seats, a Sparco steering wheel, and AEM instrument cluster. But the manual shifter is long gone, replaced by a drive mode selector inside the custom fabricated center console.

Electric Avenue

Yes, the engine and transmission from this S2000 are long gone, replaced by a Tesla electric motor that now resides where the fuel pump and tank used to reside. Wisecraft completed the fabrication needed to make all of this fit, which was extensive and included cutting away much of the rear portion of the body and the subframe.

Finishing Touches

Under the hood lies a Chevy Volt battery pack that is liquid-cooled. Meanwhile, custom rear lower control arms, an 8-inch extended rear subframe, and a thick plate underneath the motor all help protect the new drivetrain and make everything work together in harmony.

Impressive Results

While the fabrication work here is impressive, so too is the car's finish. All of the unused holes and various details were welded up for a clean look, and RyWire even plans on installing a working HVAC system in the car soon. While it may not win over any purists, this electrified S2000 is one of the more unique and interesting projects we've seen in some time, and also one of the most well-done electrified Honda roadsters to date.
