Vauxhall Chevette Hatch is an Undercover S2000

The unique combo of an '80s Vauxhall Chevette and the performance bits of the Honda S2000 has us questioning the builder's intentions.

Unique Mashup

Undoubtedly one of the most unusual builds/swaps we've seen, the car featured in this slideshow is a mashup of a 2000 Honda S2000 and a 1982 Vauxhall Chevette. Obviously, the Honda roadster's body lines didn't make the cut. Instead, the unique creation possesses the visual appearance of the 3-door Vauxhall, albeit with modifications. Under the skin, though, it's all S2000, including the interior!

Europe Model

The Chevette was a GM product that was sold exclusively in Europe, like other Vauxhall models. The small hatchback wasn't exactly a great fit for the American market of the era. Production of the nameplate started in the '70s and ended in the '80s. Today, not many think of these in terms of a performance restomod or swap. But that's what exactly what one builder had in mind.

Imported and Modified

The '82 Vauxhall was imported to the United States from England back in 2008. The owner proceeded to replace just about every mechanical element in the vehicle with units from Honda's beloved S2000. A wide body kit, consisting of flamboyantly-flared fenders, extended side skirts, and a prominent front splitter. Under the modified facade, an F20C from a donor S2000 can be spotted.

S2000 Everything

Let's not forget about the cabin. Nearly every single panel and functional element of the interior of the S2000 has been brought over through the process of the swap. The only glaring difference would be the lack of a convertible soft top in this crazy retrofit! The power windows, the gauges, and the A/C are all reportedly operational.

Drivetrain and Powertrain

The Honda powertrain is present all the way back to the tailpipes. The transmission and other parts of the S2000 drivetrain are here as well. The chassis rides on independent suspension parts and coilovers at all four corners, as well as disk brakes, all of which are sourced from the donor S2000.

Sold on BaT

The Honda is question reportedly had 99K miles on prior to the swap, which presumably means the motor and other mechanical parts will have had the same mileage. This one-of-a-kind build was auctioned off on Bring a Trailer a few months back with no reserve. And it fetched just $15,750, which seems surprisingly low for the amount of effort, but understandable considering the nature of the Frankenstein machine.
