Widebody S2000 Is an Inexpensive Proposition

With a rather low price tag, this modded AP1 looks like a good deal...on the surface.

First Glance

There's no denying that S2000 prices in general have risen in recent years, which makes buying one a tougher proposition. But there are still a few deals out there in the world that pop up every now and then. One particular car that seemed quite reasonable at first glance was this AP1 that recently surfaced for sale on Facebook Marketplace

Going Wide

The most obvious modification on this 2000 model year S2000 is the Amuse GT1-style body kit from Partshelper. The kit is rather comprehensive, consisting of new fenders and an updated front end, bumpers, and rocker extensions. The previous owner also installed a set of 18x10.5-inch Ambit wheels to help fill up those wide fenders.

Mods Don't Pay Off

Looks are, of course, rather subjective. So we imagine that while some will like the new style of this S2000, others certainly won't. And that's probably part of the reason why the asking price for this car was a mere $12,500. Not to mention a great example of why mods rarely pay off when you go to sell your car.

Imperfections

The Silverstone car wears what appears to be a decent paint job, but the seller does note that one of the doors and a quarter panel were replaced after a fender bender. There's also some curb rash on the wheels, but the title is clean, regardless. On the inside, there's a set of Sparco seats, Momo steering wheel, four-point harnesses, and a roll bar.

Some Positives

The engine in this AP1 has been treated to a couple of upgrades including a custom 2.5" exhaust and a cone-style air filter, for what that's worth. The car was also being sold with a clutch kit, as well as the original wheels and tires, and the suspension has been recently rebuilt.

Well Traveled

On the other hand, the car has 180k miles on the clock, so it's certainly well-traveled. It's worth debating whether or not the $12,500 asking price was fair or not, but it certainly isn't a lot of dough for an S2000 these days. Regardless, the car looks to be gone, as the original sales ad didn't last very long before it was taken down. So perhaps it was a bargain, after all.
