Default Living at the shore. Some advice please.

I now live in OCMD for the summer May through Sept. My S-2000 is garage kept when not in use. no climate control, just old fashioned garage. I'm concerned about the exposure to salt air for the four months. any suggestions other than: Leave the car in Pittsburgh? Too much fun to drive. I was trying to contact member Billman250, but no return message yet. Thanks in advance

Stan - Bought a 2004 with low mileage this past spring from a guy living in Cape May NJ. Took me 1 1/2 months just to clean the oxidation from the engine.
Another month to clean under the car and a few days to get all the sand out from the trunk and interior. That being said I would leave the car in Pittsburgh.
Just my opinion.

Lived with mine for 2 years in Norfolk VA, about 1/4 mile from the water. Humid and salty air. Kept it clean with fairly regular washes and in a garage, no issues.

If it is going to parked for any length of time during the day, I might try keeping under wraps with a nice cover.

Just keep it well washed, even if it is clean.

My folks lived for years on an esplanade facing towards the prevailing wind, coming off a sheltered but 2 miles wide estuary. They had 2 cars, a newish Mitsubishi Lancer & an older Ozzie Holden.

Of these the Mitsubishi was the more rust resistant, but being more valuable it was kept in the under house garage. The garage was watertight, but had open eaves & poorly fitting doors. The car was kept clean & dry, but was exposed to the salty air.

The older Holden was parked outside in the weather full time, where it got quite dirty from dust & rain. Because of this it was regularly washed, where the "good' car was clean, so only washed rarely.

After about 7 years the good car was found to be full of rust, where the older thing, regularly washed free of salt, was still sound. So keep it washed, & it should be fine.

I live along the NC coast. With regular washing, waxing and keeping it covered with a quality cover the car should be fine for the few months you are in OCMD.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, what did you use to clean the under-carriage? Also used to live in Cape May a long time ago. Thanks. Bob

On the block, transmission, and diff I used a wire brush and aluminum polish. On suspension parts I used again wire brush but also used a rust converter
and then painted. Came out pretty good.

I will be trying this on my S2K undercarriage. Really appreciate you sharing this information. And again, apologies to the OP for the temporary thread hijack. Bob
