Default Brake Pads

Which of these brake pads would be the best for street use? Best bite and lowest dust.

Akebono Performance ASP829/ASP537

Project Mu NS 400

Project Mu HC+ 800

OEM with Civic Si (45022-SVB-A02) on the front and AP1 on the rear

Do the Project Mu HC+ 800 dust a lot and how are they for street use?

I've only used the HC+800 from your list. The dust isn't so bad for street use as long as you clean your wheels routinely. It definitely performs much better than OEM pads.

The Project Mu HC+800 is in a completely different category compared to the rest and is the apple while the rest are oranges. In terms of performance the others can't hold a candle to what the HC+800 is capable of, however they will dust the most of any pad on your list.

We will be going live with a sale on Project Mu pads by the end of the week if anyone is interested

Does the HC+ 800 do OK for street use with Centric Cryo rotors? I might be interested in the sale.

Do they do OK when they are cold? Are they noisy? I do not mind a slight squeak every once in awhile. Would cleaning my wheels at least once every 2 weeks keep them clean enough with the HC+ 800?

They are technically a street pad so yes, yes they do work very well on the street even at very low temps

Dust levels, like many other things pertaining to cars are mostly dependent on the driver and conditions in which you drive. If you only use the car aggressively then expect to see your wheels get dusty rather quickly. If you are washing your wheels every other week I don't think the dust will be too big of an issue for you.

Have you used both the HC+ 800 and NS 400?

Actually, they do pretty well when cold and only get better as they warm up. If bedded properly you shouldn't have much issues with noise. I DD my car (75 mi/day) so after a week it usually needs some cleaning. So dependent on your driving habits, once every 2 weeks should suffice.

I DD my car too. Usually maybe around 30 miles per day. On other forums people say the HC+ 800 are noisy and dust a lot. Are there any better ones than the HC+ 800 in the same price range.

How does the NS 400 compare to OEM?

Compared to OEM, yea they do dust more. Doesn't bother me much since I wash my car once every 1 or 2 weeks. After a few thousand miles you will start to get some noise but a quick re-bedding should do the trick. I don't know if there are any "better" pads than the HC's in the same price range but if all you do is street driving than perhaps one of your other choices would meet your needs and perhaps even save you some $$.
