Default 04 model on 03 plate

Prior to putting my car on the market, I used the on-line DVLA service to retain the personal plate.
A straightforward service you would think....

It is a 2004 registered facelift car, and they have managed to issue a new 03 plate (even though it was originally registered with 04!).

I called them straightaway and they were as mystified as I was. They advised me to wait for the new v5 doc and send it back with a letter (with no assurance it will be sorted out). In the meantime, I have to buy new plates and pay insurance coy for the transfer. If they subsequently send an 04 number (can take up to 4 weeks!) I'm expected to pay again for new plates and insurance transfer fee....

Furthermore, Its all going to appear very dodgy if I put it on the market whilst all this is going on.

Has anybody been in this position with DVLA?

And I assume potential buyers are going to be very wary of buying an 03 posing as a facelift. Any views?

Many years ago I had a 1995 N reg car, took a plate off it and they gave me a W reg which made the car look 4/5 years newer

My S2000 is a 2004 registered facelift on a 53 reg, 53 is the oldest facelift I've seen, never seen one on an 03

Yep agree with above. 53 is the oldest face-lift you will see, DVLA should sort this out for you unless your car is a spurious import of some kind.

What is the date of first registration?

04 plates only started 01/03/2004 when the new reg kicked in so yours should have been a 53 like Rob

Thanks for the relies.
The car is one of the U.K. spec imports from Cyprus.
On closer look at the V5, the date of first registrations is 01/01/2004 but it also says date of UK registration is 01/06/2004 - hence the original 04 plate.
In any case, it should not be 03.

(Apologies for the topic. Better to be discussing superchargers, suspension upgrades, etc, rather than number plates!!)

If date of first reg is Jan 04 it should have an 03 plate - 04 plates weren't issued until March.

But there are 2 dates on the v5.
01/012016 Date first registered
01/06/2016 Date first registered in Uk
And it the UK date they used for first number plate.

Does anyone know what dates the DVLA when a used car is imported. Y

If it was first registered in Jan 04 then as others have said it should be 53 reg.

The whole import thing does make it complicated. Unless I am mistaken DVLA can use the date the car was first used/registered in its country of origin as the date they issue the reg for in the UK.
