Homemade camera mounts
So I have the roll bar, camera, and a few ideas on how to marry the two, but I'd like to see how others have done it before I commit to a solution.
FWIW, I purchased the Oregon Scientific ATC-2000 that was posted in an earlier thread. The camera comes with a handle bar mount that I am looking to utiliize. My solution so far is a PVC tee hose clamped to the roll bar with a handlebar sized pipe coming out of the lateral on the tee. Another possibility is reusing the holes in the secret compartment where the wind screen mounts. The view is a little low, but very stable.
Thanks in advance

Here's a cheap idea I've been kicking around and I'd like some feedback on. Does anyone see a problem with drilling a hole in a suitably beefy harness bar to mount a monopod head, like this:
That's a Bogen 3229, by the way (less than $30). They have a threaded socket on the bottom that accepts, I believe, a 3/8in thread. So, the harness bar would have one hole slightly larger than 3/8ths of an inch drilled in it. Is that a dumb idea?

Nice link. My Home Depot solution will be very similar to this one:
I am still a bit worried about the camera rotating about the bar during hard braking with this mount. I should have something tonight or tomorrow to show everyone.

My solution....$7
The camera came with a swivel base and the green handlebar mount, so that was key to making this idea work, but those items could be found for cheap somewhere. With this setup I am able to get three axis adjustability, far back mountability, and easy driver access
Parts used:
PVC 1.75" x 0.75" Tee
PVC 0.75" Female to Male connector
PVC 0.75" Threaded coupling
Non-slip padding (between mount and rollbar)
SS Hose Clamps x 2
Flat Black Spraypaint

Anyone using a Mini-DV camcorder mounted to their bar? They're fairly small in size, but the weight is much more than the cameras shown, above, especially when using a large battery (no plans to purchase any more video equipment this season, as my funds, between track day fees, R compound rubber, 2nd set of wheels, and turbo purchase have forced me to actually start budgeting my expenses).
Last year I used a mount that replaced the between-seat windscreen, but with a harness bar, I can't use that mount any longer (will be selling it soon in For Sale forum).
thanks,
Mark

So the roll bar camera mount is all well and good, but I am still not getting the sense of thrill and speed that I experienced at the event, so I looked for a new vantage point. Here is what I came up with (in prototype form, of course):
I am planning on placing washers fore and aft of the rubber stopper to add physical barrier there. Overall the video quality is excellent without any shaking. I am not sure if it is the HKS exhaust or what, but there is a nasty rattle in the audio from 3k-6k I will not be terribly disappointed if I am not permitted to run this on track, but it really does not stick out much further than one of the aftermarket toe hooks, so we'll see at tech
Here is the video I shot (Google Video compressed ): http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...25279637342914 . At 30 fps, the video is quite good.
Materials:
OEM tow hook adapter - $0
12mm-1.75 bolt - $1.50
#6.5 stopper - $0.75
Washers x 2 - $0.30
