Seriously, Why is everyone crying about pics? If you can't understand this super simple concept then don't even bother doing the mod.....

I just did this and it took me about 30 minutes because of the pictures I took.

Step one:
Remove the side panel

Step two:
Remove the light
There are two notches on the windshield side of the light to put a flat head screwdriver. Gently pry here and the clear plastic cover should come off easily. Next, remove the two bolts to the left and right of the lights.

Step three:
Remove the sun visors.

It's the same for both sides

Step four:
Remove the center panel.
Gently pull it down. Be careful of the light.

Step five:
Remove the strikers with a phillips screwdriver.

Step six:
Replace the two screws with the longer bolts and washers. Put a washer on both sides.

Step seven:
Reinstall the strikers.

Reinstall the panels, light and sun visors and you are done.

Finally did this mod today!!! IT IS THE CHEAPEST BEST MOD I HAVE EVER DONE!!!!!!!!!
I had serious louddddd wind noise on MY00 and i did this mod and now i can drive down the highway at 90 miles a hour and ZERO WIND NOISE!!! sounds like a hard top!! amazing!! do this mod!!

ONE TIP: one thing i did that made this even more quiet is once you take off your striker plates switch them... the passenger side to the driver and vis vers... if your strikers were like mine they are worn down were they connect to the top which causes a loose connection and wind noise.. when you switch them.. the top with now latch down on the fresh unworn area on the striker and it locks tightly!!! SUPER QUIET!!!!

these pictures ROCK.

but i read in another thread that MY02 and later models have the thicker HT strikers...so this mod doesn't apply to me.

it might eventually if yours get worn/bent

shop manager at a dealership told me they can get bent if the hardtop/soft top is latched while the car is jacked up, the flex of the chassis will put pressure on and bend the plates/latches...sounds unrealistic but hey! you never know

So does this mean I don't have to do it to my04? I'm interested because I'm bored lol but no point if it doesn't apply to my02's+ but one thing I just don't see how this can make it seal tighter maybe i'm stupid?
