Thanks for the tip 98RON. I purchased the Lizard Skins at a local sports shop in my city.

Happy to help :)

(I never thought any idea of mine would make it across the Atlantic!)

I am going to link this to my local thread, the Prairie Redliners, so that they can see it too. Thanks again!

Nine, if you're concerned that my IQ is somewhat lagging behind my forum nickname, just take a look at the FAQ section's take on the problem for verification

Easier solution.

Strip off Soft Top.

Install Hard Top.

No more problems!

This looks like a great idea, but any concerns about the roof frame binding due to the thickness of the pad? I just picked up a Jumbo protector and fitted it but it definitely adds thickness particularly on the velcro strip. Is there any way to check clearances when the top is all the way down as I can't really see back in there? My thought was to place the velcro strip on the inside of the elbow to preven that stiffer sharp edge of the strip doing more wear on the roof but now I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not as it does bunch up as the arm starts to fold.

Any validation that there are no adverse side effects with this solution and where did you place the velcro strip in relation to the elbow joint? Anyone have this on their S for any period of time and check for additional wear?

Thanks to the OP and all for any feedback!

I have had my original version of this which is probably bulkier than this solution, fitted to the frame for 4 years with no wear apparent at all. It works.

The join on mine is on the inside of the frame to keep it as smooth as possible where it touches the material of the top, so I am with you on the positioning of the velcro.

This is exactly the wear that this solution is aimed at preventing. My 2008 has less than 2K miles on it and already has a very small fuzzy spot where the arm shown in the picture above has worn the material. It only happens when lowering the top and driving with it down as that's when it makes contact. Sounds like these Lizard Skins or the home made bootie solves the issue fairly well.

Great job! and thanks to all for the great solution and feedback!

Looks like a good option - having just had my roof replaced I'll look to purchase some of them - anything to prevent the wear and another big bill!

Just noticed the wearing on my roof (2005 model). I've had the car from new and have just renwed the Honda warranty. I'm hoping they'll cover a new roof under the warranty - am I being optimistic ???? Haven't had the conversation with the local dealer yet but itwould be good to be armed with other examples where they have covered the replacement.

I thought it was the bar on the right that caused the wear on the roof?

It is the bendy bar.

Curiosly enough...in the FAQ manual ( available for free on this site ) hint hint... ;)

Hey anything to plug the FAQ manual :D

It's not the crushed bent solid bar in the photo above right next to the tear, but the elbow hinge at the bottom of the picture if I'm not mistaken. I validated this with a chalk test.

I just bought mine... local store sold them in Canada. 15 bucks CAN each. I tried the standard pair, and it was too tight. Jumbo works great so far. There is a super-jumbo, it was FAR to big.

In your first picture, there is a bar in the back (the bar with the flattened portion), behind your mod... I put the lizzard wrap around that bar... I was under the impression that is the part that rubs against the roof.

So perhaps I should also wrap the part you did?

Thoughts....comments?

OK... here is pics of my car...

The red arrows are pointing at my lizzard wrap

Now, if I am not mistaken, you figure I should have wrapped this black shaded area?

It is possible I guess for the roof to wear because of that bar, but I've not heard of that happening. It makes more sense for the roof wear to be caused by a jolt rubbed against it, or a rough piece of metal cutting into it.
