Default S2000 2.4 turbo up in flames!

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know about a garage that you should stay well away from: Garage786 in Leicester , Took my S2k to them after I blew my engine and decided to go for a rebuild and turbo conversion.

After 3 months when I finally got my car back, was advised to run in engine for 700 miles and the car was limited to 4k RPM and 8psi boost. While I was running in engine I purchased a AEM AFR and went to Garage-D in Watford to have it installed, the owner of Garage-D ,Julian was a great help and once he looked at the engine his exact words were "This is a fire waiting to happen!" . No heatshield, nothing had been heat wrapped,my ABS unit had started Melting from the heat of the turbo and the car was running way too rich! Julian heat wrapped a couple of things for me and advised me that the screamer pipe which was right next to the oil return line was very dangerous.I was due back at Garage786 for a remap in a few days....

I rang up Garage786 and told them about ABS unit and his reply was " Oh yea forgot to tell you , you need a turbo blanket" - I ordered one same day and fitted it 2 days later

after 1,000 miles was done I went back to Garage786 for remap, told the guy (Yasir) about what Julian had said, but he was adamant that nothing would happen and it was fine

After remapping car to 312bhp at 8psi and limited to 8K RPM, I was told to come back in a week to wire a boost solenoid and remap again.

drove out of garage and 20 Mins later on M1.......

Did you do any research on turbo installs on an S2000 beforehand?

Sorry to hear this.

What have they said so far? I presume you are covered for fire and theft on insurance?

I've seen this happen before in the US, and my own S2000 caught fire from a dodgy turbo install.

Hence I hate turbo retrofits - the car wasn't designed for it and there's too much heat for my liking.

In my case, the screamer / wastegate pipe parted company and jetter hot gas into an oil line, and caught light. Possibly the same here, or an injector has popped.

Gitted for you mate,
just out of interest why did you go back to them after someone else had told you how shoddy their work was?

Gutted for you mate, sounds like it was an accident waiting to happen - Julian @ Garage-D is highly regarded in the modified turbo field.

I hope you get a good resolution from Garage786. Something's can't be rushed or done on the cheap.

not the first time I have heard about Yasir messing up. Couple of my friends with crx and eg had problems with him. S2K tuning I would either go to Romain at eurospec or DMS.
