Default Omonia Square

Hello Greek friends

I may be coming to Athens in the near future and I have been looking at some hotels.
I have seen a couple of hotels that get good reviews in the Omonia Square area, but I keep reading quite a lot of comments that this is not a good area, prostitutes, drug users, pick pockets etc.

I know that people can exaggerate on the internet, but what is this area of Athens really like? Is it as bad as the reviews say?

Do any of you have any recommendations for nice hotels to stay in Athens?

I have heard that the Plaka district is nice and situated close to the Acropolis.

Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Ευχαριστώ παιδιά!

Hi Harri.

No problem for the English, I understand what you mean.

It is only for 3 nights and my wife wants to visit Acropolis and other famous sites so it will have to be Athens.

It has been 20 years since I have been in Greece when I went around a lot of this islands with some college friends.

Good memories.

Harri-S-

Well, after having written a full city guide and pressing the Google Search button on the current tab of s2ki I LOST EVERYTHING

So... really fast....

Omonoia indeed is not the place you wanna be.
The square and benches over there are used as beds by homeless people and drag users at night.

"Sidagma" is the place i would recommend and some nice but expensive hotels can be found there. Depends on your budget really but since you sold the AEM you will be fine j/k

Grand Bretagne
http://www.grandebretagne.gr/

King George Palace (not the official website)
http://www.greece-athens.com/hotels/...ma/kinggeorge/

Amalia Hotel
http://www.amalia.gr/

Athens Diamond Hotel
http://www.athensdiamondhotel.com/

Athens Cypria Hotel
http://www.athenscypria.com/

A few more hotels a bit further away from the city center but still very close...

Intercontinental Hotel
http://www.ellada.net/athintc/index.php

President Hotel
http://www.president.gr/

Ledra Marriot Hotel
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/athg...marriott-hotel/

There must be some more i am forgetting right now but i am sure others will help as well.

Hope this is of help, and let us know if you want a ride with some s2ks around town (for you and your wife ofcourse )

Τον gamhS3S τον άνθρωπο. 10 ΑΕΜ θέλει για να μείνει σε αυτά τα ξενοδοχεία.

Plaka FTW. Near Acropolis, so you don't have to takes buses an taxis, as taxi drivers are ####ing rude and idiot.

I've suggested previously, the Metropolitan Hotel.
http://www.chandris.gr/athens/

I also agree with Nabu's suggestion of Intercontinental Hotel and Ledra Marriot Hotel.

Although all three above hotels are further south from the city central, it is close by to the coast line as well. The Metropolitan Hotel is further south than the other two hotels and is right next to the great Eugenidis Planetarium. By the way, the Eugenidis Planetarium is the largest and most advanced in the world with a dome diameter of 25 meters and a total surface of 950 m2 (about 2.5 baskeball courts).

My suggestion is to stay away from Omonia Square. Syntagma (or Sintagma) is a nice place to visit, you can also see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier right next to the great parliament building.

Plaka is a place which you must walk through. Feel free to give me a ring so we can meet for lunch or a drink. You've got my number.

Thanks for the advice guys.

We've been looking at other areas and my wife can get a concession rate at the King George Palace so we'll probably book there.
