Arizona Heat
Greetings everyone,
I am a Phoenician planning on buying an s2k this fall. I'm wondering whether the red interior would be any less hot than the black.
There's just something about sitting in a black box under the Arizona sun that doesn't appeal to me. On the other hand, maybe the effect of the color would be overwhelmed by other factors.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hello Furdaddy, and welcome:
My interior is black, and it can be uncomfortably hot if I leave the top down in the sun while the car is parked. My solution to this is simply not to leave the top down while parked.
My take on this issue is that it all depends on how you plan to use your car. Mine is my daily driver, but I have covered parking at work and a garage at home. When I'm somewhere else, the top stays up when parked.
While driving, I haven't noticed any heat issues that I attribute to the black interior.
I don't know if this has helped at all, but if you have any further questions or would like to take a ride to check it out just let me know.

Furdaddy,
The appropriate solution is to sell your place & move to Flagstaff. Much less heat up here!
Seriously, I've driven rentals w/ all colors of interiors and exteriors--when the temp gets over 100, it just doesn't matter what color it is! I'd just go with whatever you like best.

I ordered mine with a red interior, in part for heat reasons. The Porsche I owned earlier had black leather seats and I used to nearly fry my legs while wearing shorts during the Tucson summers. The car was a week-ender only and the top was always off (Targa). You could probably avoid the problem to a degree (pun intended) by putting your top up when you park the car, but I believe that the red will be a bit cooler.
I also noticed a big temperature difference between the tan seats on the Miata I used to own and the black ones in my friend's Miata. That comparison is a bit skewed in that the tan was leather and the black was vinyl.
Bottom line: whether your interior is red or black, you are going to have one fantastic car!

I put a car cover over my car when I have it parked at work (top up or top down). The shift knob still gets very hot, but the interior is ok.
With a convertible, the interior gets to ambient temperatures fast.
