I know this has been asked before, but I just can't find the thread when I do a search. I'm looking for tires for the wife's Camry Hybrid. The tires are almost past the wear bars. Best place to get tires anyone? Not looking to put RE050's or anything like that on the Camry which feels like I'm driving a couch.

I had tried that along time ago only to have the Discount Tires manager call me after a week stating that they cannot match.

I think on certain tires maybe you can get them to match but I have never had any success. I generally buy them from online tires and take them to wheel specialists.

 

+1 for discount on price. Just don't take the first quote they throw at you.
What I did with my truck is I went Wal Mart and got a quote from them and printed it.
Then went to Discount and they quoted me a better tire and marked it down to what wal mart wanted for the cheaper set.
IMO I would much rather deal with Discount if I had an issue instead of Wal Mart or another shop anyway.

I found tires cheaper at the Rack, but Discount gave me a whole shpeel on "adding in shipping and installation we are cheaper" talk. I'm going to check out what Wallyworld has to offer and see if they'll match that. Thanks for all the suggestions

 

They'll say that whether it's true or not. I've done some comparisons, and I found Tirerack + shipping + installation to always be cheaper for me compared to Discount Tire + tax (I think the on line purchase still avoids tax). Of course, this was for generally expensive tires - with cheap enough tires this might not be true. The other online site Boofster mentioned might be even cheaper. What I also like is shipping the on line tires directly to the installation location.
The installation cost also varies a lot - as does the equipment quality. For the S2K, I used WSI but I think the installation was something like $35 per wheel. For another car I had tires shipped to a Goodyear dealer (they were Yokohamas), and I think the installation was $15 per wheel. That's probably a fair price to value the Discount Tire installation.

Dallis told me to go to Discount, have them price match, and ask them to comp you on installation. I didn't ask for the install comp, but he said it's worked for him.

 

thanks for all input all. I ended up getting a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4 for the Camry and getting a pretty good deal IMO. Ended up paying $569 out the door(installed and TPMS rebuilt). Man, it's like a night and day difference with new tires on the Camry which had 70K miles on the OE tires.
