Default digiZoid

Ok, for starters, I'm not usually one to broadcast about anything I try or buy or anything like that, at least when it comes to electronics or gadgets. But this thing is different.

It's called the "zo personal subwoofer". I got my first look at it through one of my fiancee's contacts in the electronics industry (she's an engineer in that field). Apparently, digiZoid is a startup company whose founder spent decades as an engineer in the audio and electronics field, and for the past however many years has been developing this 'groundbreaking' technology designed for portable media players.

But whatever, lets get to the point. I had a chance to try this thing out, and holy crap does it work. I tried it with my pair of standard issue apple earbuds that came with my ipod, and it seriously made it sound like I had two floor speakers strapped to my ears! Not like a overly loud amplification, but it was way bassy. GOD it was bass! More and better bass than I EVER thought could come from a pair of earbuds. Not only that, but it enrichened every part of the music to the point that I was hearing new things inside the music that I had never heard before! The zo hooks up in line between your ipod (or whatever) and your earphones, and acts as an amplifier, but much more too. I guess recently the company unveiled their website with a bit better explanation than I can give lol.

I just pre-ordered mine. I DEFINITELY suggest you check it out. I am posting this in a few other places and forums because I want everyone I know to hear about it. This is gonna be huge...

I'm sure if you contact the company they will work something out, seems a bit rediculous that they won't ship to canada...

You gonna have to let me hear this before I pay $100 for an equalizer.

Are they going to drop them at Best Buy or w/e so we can test before we buy?

Even if it sounds good the product won't take off. There is no market for it.

The average iPod-user type is not going to want a $120 block hanging off their headphone cord that they have to drag around everywhere. The audiophile user is not going to want anything even slightly related to a bass engine or booster to get in the way of the purity of their source. The wannabe audiophile already has a pair of Bose headphones that he blew $400 on because the guy on the plane in the JC Penny suit was using them and he seemed cool.

So who is going to buy these? Maybe if they get on QVC or Skymall they might sell to impulse buyers.

What I would like to buy is a non-compression portable music drive. I want true unmolested CD or better source quality sound from it. I don't care if its comparatively huge and/or ugly. I just want to hear great sound out of my car system without having to juggle CDs or suffer the degradation of compression. I'll gladly pay for that.

I see where you are coming from Kirk, but I'm going to have to disagree with you...

With mine, im going to get a little two cent piece of double sticky tape and attach it to my ipod semi-permanently. Lugging problem solved, the thing weighs like an ounce. Additionally, I'm going to hook it in line with the aux input on my car stereo, because I tried that as well, and it made it sound absolutely bitchin. MILES better than adjusting the factory equalizer.

I consider myself an average guy with no intention of being a wannabe audiophile, I just like good music. And after trying literally dozens of headphones ranging from 20 bucks to 500, beatz, klipsch, bose, and including that new skullcandy set with it's own "bass booster" in the cord (what a joke that was), and having them all blown away with a plug-n-play in-line amp for $120 bucks? Hell to the yes, I'm plunkin down my cash.
