Default The Duece

I missed this past weekends Bell Honda meet because I had to help my friend move from Albuquerque NM, to Chandler AZ. He came across a really good deal a couple months back, and after getting some pressure from his friends, he went ahead and purchased this 1971 bobbed deuce and a half. It came with the winch, 48" tall tires, and the rear cargo top with picket side rails. It has a turbo diesel engine, and push button four wheel drive. The steering wheel was almost 2ft in diamater, with no power steering. It has a 5 speed transmission, with no synchros, so it took me awhile to adjust. Brakes were air assist, and it stopped really well.

We averaged 8mpg and it took us 11 hours over two days. Earplugs were a must, and frequent stops were also made. There are so many vibrations that your body almost goes numb after 2 hours. We maxxed the truck out at night at about 60mph, according to a droid app, and we went as slow as 25mph climbing the mountains around Payson. We also made a few unscheduled stops to barrel down some dirt roads in the middle of no where. If anyone is interested, I can post up some facts. I learned a lot about the truck over the weekend. Talk about getting attention, seemed like everyone and their mother was waving, beeping, giving thumbs up. We even had some people get out of their cars at traffic lights to come talk.

Plans for my friend are to hopefully buy a house with some land so we can take the truck apart, sand blast it, and repaint it. He might also replace the cab since this one has some holes and rust. He will most likely sell it at some point, because in MINT condition these go for 18k. I am hoping to do some serious off-roading in it and maybe bring it out to a meet or two. I can't wait to get pictures of a slammed S2K next to, or under this truck!!!

My friend pumping the gas is 6'6" to put things in perspective!

HAHA, nice catch. There was a huge dirt mound that we were considering driving over (probably 10ft tall). We ran up it to see if we could make it, but it was really soft and our shoes got filled with stones...
we opted not to drive over it because we would have just sunk right in...and it was on the side of the road.

Pictures just don't do it justice though. It was funny driving through Chandler and pulling up to a couple guys in a lifted truck that thought their truck was big!

Have any pics? I wanted to do a desert camo, but I think it will stay green. I personally like the rusty look, gives it more character and a all business look. Flat black would look really cool!

It has a control module from a Hummer H1, so it has lots of options and combos for the lights. Could go totally stealth mode, if the truck was only quieter!
