First Run At Speedway
Gotta tell someone about this even if you don't care, my wife sure does not! Ran at Speedway first time Sat nite. So slow, no wonder I had the only S there out of 150 plus cars. First run was 17.5/85.7 mph, tires spun for at least 20 ft due to being wet, the car in front of me wanted to do a second burn out so I was forced to back up thru the water meaning my tires were wet. Since this was my first run I did not really know what to expect, but I know now! Second run was 15.5/94.3 mph, the launch area was still damp and tires spun for a good 10 ft or so. One of the guys told me the track temp was not hot enought for the tires to get a good grip. Am fairly sure with a few more runs I could get a better launch and get at least a 15.0. I learned it takes practice! Had to shift into 4th just prior to the finish line due to 457 gears, and due to the excitement forgot to power shift as had planned to do. Thanks to one of you HPDE guys for telling me earlier not to expect to be in the 13 sec bracket, in fact I think you said I would not break 17, or maybe it was 15. You were right. Any one want to buy my new helmet? Comments are welcome in case I decide to run again, but am sure HPDE is a lot more exciting, not much fun sitting in line with over a 100 cars waiting their turn at the drag strip.
Hi Marvin,
1/4-mi is ok, it's fun mainly just to hang out and see what the car will do. But after you do it a couple times, it gets old fast, especially in a car not meant for drags.
Come out and try HPDE, you will have a great time - @ PIR on May 5-6.

Weird man, thats slow... really slow. I ran 15.1s in my 96 Prelude H22 but thats back in the east so 93 octane and colder temps. I would expect to run 13.8 if you are an amazing driver and/or atleast 14.5 in the S2000.
Straight line acceleration is not this car's forte. Get a HEMI whatever for that.
Keep your helmet and come out to HPDE. I guarantee you'll have a lot more fun. Road course driving IS this car's forte. I smile just thinking about it.
I wasn't sure if I would like it at first, but I am hooked. I never expected the people to be so nice and helpful to a new guy. They really make you feel welcome. I was expecting some kind of loosely organized road rage craziness but the reality is exactly the opposite. It is well organized, well supervised, and most importantly safe.
I would recommend just showing up and hang out at the next event as a spectator and see what you think. Talk to Mervin and Ryan. They are both S2000 pilots and advanced level instructors...and super nice. There's usually a few other S2000's there too.

Actually I think 15.5 is a respectable time in a stock S. The magazines were only running low 14s and they do that crap for a living. Nice job!
Now go autocross it like you're supposed to...
