Group drive opportunities
Now that the brief mountain snow season is almost over, I figured it would be good to do a short notice drive thread. This thread can be used to organize small group drives/trips. A week out would be nice, but who thinks that far ahead these days? If you feel like driving somewhere, post here a few days in advance and extend an invitation. Activities are usually more fun with company.

I feel like going to Pinetop/Show Low Saturday morning. I have yet to make that drive and I haven't seen any reports of recent snow in the area (region is supposed to get some Saturday night though). Anyone interested? Was probably going to do coffee/breakfast in Mesa, drive up, have lunch, head over and grab a beer at the Pinetop Brewery, do something touristy for an hour or two, and then head back. If interested, let me know.

I've had to go to ShowLow/Pinetop area for work for the past few years.
If you go to Pinetop there's a nice short hiking path along the Mogollon Rim if you want to get out and strech your legs. Can't remember if the road to the parking lot is dirt but if it is it's a short level road.
Rim Trail
Persnikkitys Cafe and Bakery is a good lunch spot but it is in Show Low. They close at 3pm and have great food and cupcakes.

Porter Mountain Road off the 260 has "some" curves but is pretty nonetheless and you get away from traffic for a short cruise.
The best strech of road out there is the highway from Show Low to Globe through the Salt River Canyon.

Id be interested in this, have never explored those roads in the S and would love to.
Im in the North Valley and there are also some nice canyon roads in the cave creek/carefree area with little to no traffic and you dont have to drive an hour outside of town to get to them so thats where I typically go.

I lived in Cave Creek for about 9 months. It was great. A lot of scenic roads up there. Sonoran Desert Dr is really nice. Not much in way of excitement, but the scenery is awesome. I still find myself up that way once or twice a week.

Azh- thanks for the recommendations. When you say the highway between Glove and Show low I am assuming you are referring to the 60? That is what originally caught my attention.

yes exactly. The 60. The 77 south of globe is also cool but there's daily construction at one point where it's down to one lane. Take that down to winkle man and take the 177 back to the 60. I'm from Tucson so I take the 77 to the 60 north to show low and pinetop.
