GT Academy 2012
This is true, I tried to follow the lead guy with exact imitations of what he did to get that time, and real racing would not result in a time like that, rather a spin out
he had a ton of what would be "lift over-steer" moments in real life, however in the game it stuck very well. None of his moves made sense either, but then again, I am no race driver, so I can't say if a couple pumps on the brakes during corner entry would help time (pretty sure it doesn't, for that corner anyways) it almost seemed spastic lol. His line was mostly correct, but some corners he did things that was against what I was taught... but then he would leave me standing so I can't really say in the games "laws of physics" it didn't hurt

This has happened many times before as a silly video game will likely never completely behave as a real car would, no matter how close it comes. I find it irritating that people are actually being selected for serious professional careers based on their ability to adapt to the quirks of fake racing (aka taking advantage of the deficiencies).
Sony have improved the experience considerably so I am hopeful for the future. Last year's event was so ridiculous and irritating that I quit almost immediately. This one seemed not so far fetched so I kept trying up to the very last minute. I had it down pretty good towards the end and I think I could have done it if I had a couple more days of practice. Even when my hands got pretty sore.
I'm not sure what else can be done to satisfy this many players around the world. The numbers were insane. Something like 1,400,000 players entered from all around the world. Not sure how many in the US. The top 32 were separated by tenths of a second.
I also approached the fast lap as I have been taught to race at the track in real life. That seemed to not work in this case. Everyone in the top ranks was trail braking and almost drifting the car into every single corner. This is very rarely done IRL if only to correct for a mistake (swing the back out). When it happens, it slows you down much more than the game. Usually you brake in a straight line and then work the accelerator to master the corner.
Another thing that failed was the tire choice which led to having to resort to the above shenanigans. The game car had stock hard tires (the lowest possible) which is strange for a "tuned" race car with considerable torque. Everyone knows the first thing you do on a track car IRL is mount a nice set of race tires. Even a car with no power will come ahead with only this change. To combat this, players were upshifting early and flooring it after swinging the back out on a trail brake. The car somehow regained composure after skidding (4 wheel drift out on trail brake) and resumed while maintaining a very high corner exit speed.

Some fun tidbits: the international top 10 did not have a single US driver and the 10th place on that list is a Japanese driver who used the Playstation paddle controller (nuts!)
TL;DR: MY DREAMS ARE RUINED! lol
j/k

So the word is a fellow S2KI member is heading to Silverstone for the next round. I also just read that there is another S2KI owner competing in Silverstone. These guys do some club racing, NASA TT, and a lot of STR class autocross. Pretty cool to have some well known S2KI members representing!!
There is a thread about it in the competition and racing forum here

good job Ivan, but let me know when you want to play a true racing sim

lol/jk, but seriously though, when the new forza drops I will be all over that like a zombie on a pregnant women (2 meals for the price of 1
)
Currently cant take my daily to the track, but I would love to go out there. And, what prospect of a lifestyle are you referring to that required proficiency? GT felt terrible in my opinion, from the turning radius of cars to the physics, it just seemed off. Forza may not be a "true" racing sim, but it sure is the closest that we can get to experiencing the feeling of driving a finely tuned sports car. Sure Forza, again, in my opinion, made every one of the cars have basically the same turning radius, which is not very realistic at all, but other than that, I think it more closely resembles the nuances and skills needed to drive around a track in real life.
AHHHHHHHHHH. Ok. I get it now. What retard thought of that idea? That is like taking the champion of a Madden tournament and letting them be an assistant coach for a pro team or something.
