handling question when taking corners
A few weeks ago I had two rear tires replaced with the Pole Positions 255 40 R17's
Since then I notice then when I take corners hard that the front wheels are sliding and I can feel the sliding vibration and hear it.
I was wondering if it had to do with any of the followig or all of the above ?
a) I put on wider back tires without putting on wider front tires
b) Different tread since i have stock tires still on the front
c) a combination of both
I have the Tanabe sway bar which was added about 5 months ago and the Beat Rush but I don't remember it doing that before the rears were replaced.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks,

2 things, a bigger front swaybar will add understeer, coupled with the fact you now have wider, and grippier rear tires. What you are feeling is probably massive understeer. Suggestions are, get 225 front tires, and possibly take the front swaybar off. Go back to stock size.
Thanks for the feedback,
I was guessing understeer predominantly from the rear tires since I never had that with the stock setup and Tanabe sway bar. I figure Ill get the front tires upgraded to 225's first and see what happens afterward.

How do you get understeer from the rear tires?
I know oversteer would be taking a left turn hot and the rear of the car slides out to the right...
But are you saying you take a left turn hot and the rear end starts sliding to the left...?

I believe he means having a larger rear tire size while retaining the stock front size are causing understeer. Understeer is the front end pushing, as in not turning, oversteer is the rear end of the car stepping out. What he is feeling is exactly why you should not go up a size in the rear of the car, without doing the same in the front. When I bought my car, it had the opposite, 225 in the front, 245 in the rear. It was fun having all the oversteer, but it hurt the performance of the car.
Understeer is when the front of your car hits the wall, oversteer is when the back of your car hits the wall.
I'd say it's a combination of things but I don't think 10mm in width is going to make a huge difference on the street. Personally I wouldn't run a stiffer front sway bar with the stock stagger. You have a link to those different tread wear ratings?
