Default Headrest speaker

Has anyone replaced the headrest speakers with Aftermarkets ? I'm talking for MY 06 or newer.

One of mine is shot so rather than fade them out id like to get some good ones.

I have looked at the S Pods but Id rather just have the tweeters replaced.

Thanks for the link. I did look at those. I'm not real handy when it comes to drilling hold and probably want something with a little more power.

I bought my "01" used 3 years ago and the guy I purchased it from custom made the enclosures where the headrests are and installed 5 1/4" Infinity Kappas. It would be hard to explain in detail on how he was able to do this but if you really want to know just shoot me a tell and I'll explain it to you.

There's not much room to install much to replace the existing speakers. Others have tried without much luck. Modifry seems to have a speaker that is more than the existing tweeter but it does take some modification to install it. Steelerfan we don't really have headrests like the AP1s do. We would have to cut into the seat. I thought something in-between the roll bars might work. Again a lot of cutting and modification.

I think he is referring to something like the S Pods which fills the Hold in the Head rest. I am not real fond of doing that but you could definitley fix some nicers speakers in there.

I would upgrade the door speakers and get an amp if I were you. You don't put your speakers behind you at home, do you? I've heard several different roll bar and headrest speaker solutions and all sounded bad IMO. They make the sound a lot more audible with the top down, but the speakers are too close to your ears and behind you making the sound quality very poor. Especially if you do headrest speakers with the left speaker in the drivers seat, the right speaker is practically inaudible over the the one pounding into your head.

This is incorrect IMHO. I have the headrest speaker system in mine along with the doors. I use a 4 channel fosgate amp to drive both the doors and the headrest speakers. I use a 2 channel amp bridged to drive the woofer. My head unit allows me to adjust the headrest speakers to the point where you can crank the system up and not blow your ears off and still get outstanding clear quality sound from the total system by not just using the fadar option.

I do have a JL Audio 4 channel amp already with a clarion deck. That's why I was looking at the head rest.

I'm thinking the custom enclosure my be my best option unless i decide to shut them off.

Tell me do you have better sound when the top is down with those rear head speakers.

I went over to a shop today and talked to a guy about doing it he said they can do it and it will add a noticeable difference in volume. I wasn't sure how clear it would be however.

Headrest speakers will sound louder than door speakers, all else being equal. If that is your goal, then go for it. If your goal is better sound (ie proper imaging and sound stage), spend your money on premium door speakers.

Look at examples of high quality sound systems. Movie theaters, audiophile 2 channel stereo systems, premium factory car stereos, etc. I don't think you will ever find a single channel speaker right behind the listeners head. The closest you will find is what you already have, a pair of small driver to assist with imaging, location constraint compromises, surround systems, or in your case, volume due to a loud cabin. If you find a good sound system that places a single driver right behind your head I'd be interested to see it.

At the very least ride with someone who has the setup already before you invest any money. There are many people that love s-pods, you may be one of them.
