Default Moving to Phoenix, AZ

Whats going on everyone? I am moving to Phoenix the first week in April from Cincinnati, Ohio to attend UTI to pursue my passion. I already have a business degree from the University of Cincinnati so I am pursuing my assoc degree from UTI.

I would love to pick everyones brains to understand where to live and what all there is to do in Phoenix.

So to the questions:

Where are the places to live? My fiancee..(wife at the time of moving) we want to have a nice apartment in a nice, safe area. We would like to be close to shops, resturants and bars.

What are the things to do out there?

Is the s2k community pretty close and do you guys get together often?

Hows the overall city in general? What should I expect when I get out there in April?

Looking foward to hearing everyones responses.

Thanks,
Jeff

Welcome to the az! We have bi-weekly meets mondays are the westside, wednesday is the eastside. The westside which is the side I imagine is closest to where you will be living has been having pretty good turn outs lately. Between 10-15 s2ks. We are pretty friendly community. I just moved here myself. I live in north phx and its alright, I have some friends that live in apartments near uti too and they are pretty nice. Start looking for a job as soon as you can, Its tough out here!

Please look for an apartment with a garage for your S2K. There are plenty out here and they are pretty cheap too!

Seats are stolen often here so watch where you park.

Other then that look forward to meeting you at one of the meets!

Stig thanks for the heads up. Where do you reccomend us getting an apt at? What area of town?

4WHL why did you say "with anything there will be exceptions" ?

Do you have any advise or anything for me while I am getting ready to go to UTI?

Just make sure you have a garage, and you don't leave your car anywhere outside overnight. We all here can't stress that enough. These cars draw a lot of attention from the wrong crowd, do a search and you will uncover lots and lots of stolen parts thread here in AZ.

Where is UTI, is this the one in Avondale? If so, stay away from Avondale, not the nicest of places. Look into Litchfield Park for an apt. It is very nice, upscale, and safe, although there is hardly a nightlife there. Parts of Goodyear are nice as well.

I just say that because I enjoyed my overall experience there, but the exceptions were quite a few idiot students, one or two crappy teachers (but plenty of good ones).

When I say idiot students, I mean mostly the ones who would constantly talk back to teachers because they thought they knew everything cause their uncle helped them turn a few wrenches on some old 50's Buick under the old oak tree on the farm back home. But again, overall, l enjoyed it, and made some good friends that I still chill with to this day.

PICK YOUR LAB PARTNERS WELL. lol

Also, plan on working your ass off to get into one of the MSATs, as that is really the only way to get a good head start on things. If I could do it over again, I would go for the BMW FastTRACK program (they didn't offer it when I went there).

I am planning on going into the BMW fastrack program. I think being a part of the program will open a lot of doors for me.

So is crime really that bad in Phoenix? I heard today that it is. So should I get a good alarm on my car while I am out there? What all do you guys suggest that I do?

I would like to live between UTI and Scottsdale. I dont mind the communte if it is less than 30 mins. I would rather be in a safe place and drive farther than live so damn close and be worried about my car or even myself.

So what specific areas and apts should I be looking into? Any suggestions other than the ones above?

I would really like to meet everyone once I am out there in AZ. I am planning on getting out there 1.5 - 2 weeks before my classes start at UTI to get acustomed to living out there.

4WHLBKE: Would you say that UTI is better than Wyotech? Do you think there are a lot of opportunities for a UTI grad? Thanks for all the advise man I really do appreciate it. What is the schedule like? The recruitor said 630am- 12 then lab during the day? Would you go back and do it again?

Ghetto a$% area around the school!!! Very scary!!! a license to carry would be nice. My AP2 was keyed numerous times there, and finally totaled out there. My friends s2k was stolen from school and dumped in the desert. So much crime it's not even funny. UTI is the biggest rip off ever!! Save the money!!!! Buy a project car and rebuild it yourself you'll learn more than any tech school. I was learning from Fonzy and grandpa about Domestic crap in every phase. I heard more personal stories about back in the day and how bad ass their '55 chevy was than learing the class. If you like imports be prepared to be put on blast in every class to. If you already have a business degree go to UTI for fun and a legit way to light money on fire instead of actually doing it. if you are thinking UTI will help you upgrade and make more money your about to get rode hard by that place. There is slim opportunity after it. Almost every manufactuer has pulled ties with the school for factory training which is all I wanted to go for. The "core" program is a joke and a waste of life, the drug testing/quality control they Emphasize on the students is a joke I had Juan Omar slangin yay all day and 50 cent pullin his shirt off in the parking lot trying to fight ppl at lunch cause he was just doing bong rips during the first break. Tje program bearly puts you ahead of the rest, but if you have $25k+ to waste be my guest I wish I did haha, but im deicated to telling every S2ker that comes on here all pumped for AZ and UTI. I wish someone would have typed me this before I wasted my time, life and hard earned money on that shit. Now im constantly trying to find a way to get home to the east coast.
Sorry for raining on your parade or being the bearer of bad news
