I sometimes park the car on a steep hill at my friends and when doing so put the car in First, Second or reverse and pull up the ebrake.

However the other day, I for some reason left the ebrake down and the car in 4th gear. On the steep hill it started popping out and rolling down a bit but then stopped when it was not on such a steep part.



Definitely a case of the stupids on my part but since I never put the car in 4th on a hill, I wasn't sure if that should be happening. No problems driving the car or having it pop out but wondered if maybe something is starting to go ?

Pull e brake first, then put in gear when you park, keeps strain off the gears, and says so in the manual I believe.

What happened to your car is expected, just like coasting in gear at speed, but much slower/stressful.

However, don't do it.
